Book Group "Breaking the Spell: Religion as a Natural Phenomenon" by D. Dennett

Hi Everyone

This month the book is "Breaking The Spell: Religion as a Natural Phenomenon" by Daniel C. Dennett.

Just like the previous meetings we will meet at 19h and start talking and debating.

It can be difficult to find each other in the Festival Hall. Here is a map of where we usually meet. Being creatures of habit, we have been meeting behind the shop, underneath the stairs. Area 2 on the map! Map: http://tinyurl.com/7snwmco

Don't forget! You can bring your own drinks and food!

As usual you can find it on Amazon. Don't forget to use the link from the BHA's website.

The link is at the bottom right of the page. By using this link you are helping the BHA.

If you have any questions or get lost on your way please feel free to contact Ben or myself.

A voluntary donation of £2 suggested - but first timers are welcome to give us a free trial. Feel free to turn up if you haven't managed to finish the book but you'll be expected to have read some of it.

My favourite book of the 4 by the horsemen. His two chapters that explain belief in belief, and his desire that education should include a knowledge of all the major religions, rather than indoctrination into one are very impressive. I can't join you as I'm away, but I would love to hear some feedback

I can't make it either - but just want to say what a fantastic explanation Dennett gives of the evolution of religion. A few years ago, he gave the Darwin Day Lecture for the BHA, and I behaved like a teenage groupie by getting him to sign my copy of Breaking the Spell (which he did with charm and grace)

Gutted I can not make it. It is a foundational book for whomever seeks to understand the new atheism phenomena

Really gutted that I will be missing this as it is one of my favourite books. Best wishes to everyone - I am sure you will all have a great time. John

Hurrah - I've just found out the book is on audio book (Audible) so that's how I'll be absorbing it!
