This walk is about 4 miles (7km) and explores the Wanstead Park and Leyton Flats areas. Getting in to the forest here was harder than I thought, so we leave the station along a rather long but pleasant residential road, before entering the forest after about a mile. Then it's really beautiful, hopefully we'll have some autumn colours to admire. The forest in these parts is a mixture of lakes, forest, grassland and heath.
Walking boots are advisable. The ground conditions will depend on the weather. No hills! If it's been raining it will be very muddy in places. Binoculars/cameras are always useful to have. As usual I'll do a collection for the group along the way (£2 suggested). I haven't decided on a pub to finish at yet, so will see what people want at the walks end, which will be at Whipps Cross roundabout, where we can go on to Wood Street station (goes to Liverpool Street) or Walthamstow Central (further but there is a good pub on the way).
PS don't be late in arriving as you'll struggle to find us! The station is on the corner of the A12/North Circular and so we won't be hanging around long. However I think there's a pub nearby to meet in if you arrive earlier - I shall find out details.
