External Event - LAAG Winter Solstice Party

Due to a high chance of rain on the day LAGG have changed the meeting time to 18:00 (ye of little faith)

We will meet in the Star Tavern a 'pub' actually part of the Winterwonderland, INSIDE Hyde park. It's easy to find and there's plenty of room there and live music. Here's the WW website. It doesn't have as much info as you might like but it does give basic details.

Those with waterproofs or of an optimistic disposition can still turn up early and do rides etc, beforehand if you like and then warm up in the pub. If anyone wants to let off eco friendly lanterns to mark the occasion, we'll do so later.

The Winter Wonderland closes at 10pm.

Presuming that the World has not ended, yet again!

We thought you might like to join our friends at LAAG (London Atheist Activist Group) to celebrate the Winter Solstice.

We'll let off chinese style sky lanterns at dusk (15:54) to celebrate the return of the light.

N.B. when buying your lanterns please make sure they are eco friendly wire free ones.

WEAR: Dressing up is not mandatory of course, but if you want a bit of fun, wear winter colours - White, silver, furs (fake, we assume) and any furry animal theme.

BRING: If you would like to take part in 'Secret Sagan'- Make or buy a small gift to exchange, under £5

Suggested theme : since Winter is associated with a 'resting' indulge with anything else 'sensory' instead e.g. something that smells or feels nice.

EAT, DRINK & BE MERRY : There are all kinds of bars and cafes so each person can pick what they like, or as a group : Rustic revelry in the heart of Winter Wonderland! Around an open fire pit, warm up on hot cider, mulled wine & farmhouse foods at this outdoor gathering place. Join the party at night with live music 70s & 80s style!

Admission into Hyde Park Winter Wonderland ( free - you simply turn up and pay to do whatever takes your fancy).

N.B. Certain attractions get fully booked during peak times, they recommend that you check availability on the Hyde Park Winter Wonderland website. You will need tokens for the rides, available from the Token Booths on site. These cannot be purchased in advance.

You can purchase advanced tickets online for the:

Ice Rink
Magical Ice Kingdom
Zippos Christmas Circus
Zippos Cirque Berserk
Giant Observation Wheel.

See you there, wrapped up warm, though after a mulled wine or two we might not feel the cold much anymore!

Price: Free.  Donations towards our 'Separate Ethics from Religion category' Campaign will be welcome though!

We've been organising a few events with LAAG/CLHG and it's disappointing to see that someone has scored this meetup a 1. We have a score of 4.00 for 7 voters on the LAAG page, with comments like "well organised" and "good communication". It would be nice if the person who gave it 1 (so to speak!) would put some meat on the bones so we know where they felt it didn't live up to expectations. That said 1 is the absolute lowest score and unless an event was disastrous or completely unlike what was billed it seems a ridiculous score.

Sorry to cry off. I have a virus and think it's best to keep it to myself. Have fun, everyone.

Hi, Just to let you know the time has been changed on the LAAG event page to 6pm. I think some people may still meet earlier but plan seems to be to meet in the Star Tavern by Hyde park at 6pm. Just for anyone planning to come but not able to access the LAAG events page.

Was just about to post the same. Yes indeed - and the Star Tavern is right inside the Winter Wonderland and very easy to find. It's got a roaring fire and live music too!

I am pleased that attenders have been asked NOT to bring along WIRED Chinese lanterns, as these can pose considerable dangers for cattle in the countryside.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
