Stand Up for Darwin Comedy Evening

Stand Up for Darwin is fun fundraising evening of comedy and song dedicated to the great man Charles Darwin to celebrate his Birthday.

It is a Pan-London Humanists Groups Event in association with Conway Hall.

A host of great comedians many with a background in science will be entertaining you with laughter and logic, or perhaps the lack of it.

Doors at 7.00 p.m. Comedy from 7.30 p.m. finishing around 10.00 p.m.

Entry is pay what you can we suggest a minimum of one Darwin, (or £10 as some people know it), more if you can afford it or less if you really cannot.

PLEASE register your intention to attend on this Meetup site, and simply pay on the door.

All money raised from the evening will go to a campaign to promote science and Darwin's work and to oppose the promotion of Creationism as an alternative 'theory' to Evolution, especially in schools.

A was blown away by Gemma Arrowsmith's 5 minute epic-monologue describing our journey from the creation of the universe to beauty pageants. Highlight of the show for me.

Thanks to everyone who helped promote it and volunteered on the night and a special thanks to Rumit, Phil, Helen Arney, Newham Books and Stephen Fry for donating raffle prizes. See you all again next year. If you can't wait until then there will soon be a video of hi-lights from the evening on our You Tube site.

There were a few items left behind. A scarf, a cap and an umbrella. These will probably go to the homeless eventually if nobody claims them.

Helen, have you made sure that the Atheist Church knows about the show? Don't they meet 1st Sunday of the month, in which case a mention at their 'service' might bring in some more suporters. It would be nice to have a good crowd at Conway Hall. I'll try to see that those not on Meetup know about it at the Ethical Society on Sunday morning.

    February 1, 2013

    • Helen

Hi Fiona, I have asked Sanderson if he can mention it in the Assembly Announcements. I don't think I will be there but if anyone is going could you kindly remind him. Thanks.

I do hope there will be a video of this. I think we will be doing a podcast. If you think that it's funny that I am billed as an 'Organiser' of the CLHG and yet I don't know the answer to these questions, well being funny is going to be what it is all about. I wish I could be there. I just know it is going to be phenomenologically exquisite.

I won't be able to arrive before 8:30 pm. I have a lecture at 7, which ends at 8. I'm not sure whether that would be ok. I was told about the lecture after I registered for the event.

  • Lorna M.

Is there a number limit for this event? Just not sure yet if I will be able to make so wondering if I need to RSVP or can just turn up on the night if available?

    January 7, 2013

    • Helen

The Capacity of the hall is 400, we would love to sell out, but sadly think this is unlikely, we would like people to register in advance so we know how to arrange seating and also re the amount of wine for wine bar, etc.

      January 7, 2013

    • Lorna M.

Ok I'll RSVP nearer the time when I have better idea of other plans
