Dulwich Park and Crystal Palace Park evening walk

Tuesday 17 June

South of the River - an evening walk around Dulwich Park and Crystal Palace Park
About 4 miles
Moderate pace; not suitable for slow walkers

Meet 6.15pm at West Dulwich station exit. Take the 6pm train from Victoria (usually Platform 4) to West Dulwich. Alternatively take the 5.44pm Thameslink train from St Pancras International to West Dulwich; this train calls at Farringdon (5.49), City Thameslink (5.52), Blackfriars (5.56) and Elephant & Castle (6pm)

We will pass Dulwich Picture Gallery (the oldest art gallery in London), Dulwich College (a 17th century public school built for poor boys by Edward Alleyn who owned a theatre on Bankside and was the Master of Bear Baiting) and the tollgate (the only one still working in London). We will also go through some fine parks – Dulwich Park, Sydenham Wells Park and Crystal Palace Park. It ends with some fantastic views, sphinxes guarding the site of the Great Exhibition building and of course, the dinosaurs. Pubs near the end. Penge West is on the Overground line to Highbury & Islington and also has trains to London Bridge. Penge East (round the corner) has trains to Victoria
