Punkin Chunkin World Championships 2013

UPDATE: This will be a sunny day event only - if it rains you will be on your own!!!

We will be meeting at the McDonalds right before the Bay Bridge on RT 50, the address of the McDonalds is:

1450 Whitehall Rd, Annapolis, MD 21409

It is quite easy to find, after you pass the Wawa gas station, get into your right lane.  After you pass the McDonalds on your right, you will take the Whitehall road exit from Rt50 and double back.

The plan is to arrive at McDonalds arount 7am, get some breakfast, gather up and leave at 8am.  We will get seperated at the toll plaza at the bridge and regroup on the shoulder about 2 miles after the bridge where there is a long straight open shoulder for us to safely wait.

Dress appropriately for being outside all day! It will probably be cold in the morning but warm up through the day, bring cash for tickets, food and souveniers - again, if it rains this will be cancelled so watch the weather and check back here for updates!

Back to the description:

We are fortunate enough to have the World Championship Punkin Chunkin in our very own back yards. This event is held annually across the bay in Delaware to see who can shoot, throw, expel, or chuck a pumpkin the furthest. It has been on the Discovery channel for the past five years and has become a Thanksgiving tradition to watch the pumpkins fly every Thanksgiving evening after dinner.

The website for the event is

This year we will venture across the Bay Bridge, out of Maryland (oh no) and just a few miles into Delaware to a local farm that holds the event each year. I will post specifics later this month as to a suitable gathering place, and instructions on how we will get everyone safely across the bridge and to the farm as a group.

The cost for this event will be the one way toll on the Bay Bridge ($6) and $10 admission (at the gate or in advance online) for the event. There will be plenty of food vendors on site which have been proven to be quite good.

Although it was a beautiful day, the festivities dragged a bit and the crowds obscured our view of the cannons.

@Obsessive - this event takes place next Saturday; have you come up with a gathering place/route yet? Thanks!

I don't think this is a routed run, more of a destination run due to the end point distance and the early time needing to be at that end point. I have no doubt you will find a few of us driving (fill in the blank major highway route) on the way in.

Thanks James. I've changed my response - have another obligation now and not too interested in walking/parking in muck after the rain they will get tomorrow. Maybe next year - have fun all!!!!

Hopefully quirk will behave and we won't have to return in reverse.

James, my apologies. I'll go put it in a new discussion thread.

no need to apologize, you just get limited exposure to your inquiry when posted within a run. I'm glad you posted this outside.

    October 17, 2013

    • Mark S.

Weird. Most people seem to trade for Subaru or Jeep.

The website shows tickets are $10 per person +.99 online but approximately $15 per person at the gate. NO PETS! Bring a pet and they'll eject you with no refund. Kids under 10 are free. The midway parking pass (tailgating option to get right up close to the action and vendors) now costs $75 on Saturday -- YEOWZA!!! I'll be walking from regular parking.

Whoa.. $75 for parking closer? No thanks. I don't mind walking.

We'll be coming up from the Hampton Roads area and hopefully bring a few other MINI's too.
