One last comment .... Thoughts on using "Glympse" http://www.glympse.com/ I've used this app for a while and its very cool ... and now you can create a group vs sending around email addresses. I also like that you can decide how long you will be tracked and if you should include current speed or not.

Greg, are you going to create the group?

Can someone PLEASE bring me a radio tomorrow? SO MUCH APPRECIATION!

Can someone please tell me if this gives a workable GPX file for any of you? http://gpx.cgtk.co.uk/pDIL1

    January 4, 2013

    • erica

I thought the purpose of a GPX file was to upload into a GPS unit and guide you. If you don't have a unit, you probably don't need the GPX file. The PDFs that I just emailed you should make a lot more sense.

Yeah, I was trying to see if it could find a nav app that reads GPXs. I found a few that can write or read GPX files, but I haven't found one that does nav

ANNOUNCEMENT. I am going to print out a route sheet from Google Maps and bring it with me. Sorry. I have already emailed some of you the exact route, and if we want to throw in Greg's Leesburg twist, we can do that on Saturday at the dealership. Thanks.

I'm still working on this. Please don't set anything in stone. I'm learning as I go.

OK! Try this on for size, people: http://goo.gl/maps/EZuuq

I know it has some toll roads, I will see what I can do about that. People going on the drive please send your email to me at [masked] (Pamela and Catia, I've already gotten yours) so we can have more reliable non-meetup communications about this until the run.

Here's the silliest thing of all: is it possible to borrow a radio from one of you? I needed to exchange mine for ones that work, and they're not here yet. Unless they get here tomorrow...I'll be radio-less!

Hi All, I live in Leesburg and if you want a simple way to skip the toll road just take Rt 7 to Rt 28. If you can afford a little extra time I'd recommend a detour (+10-15 Mins) .... Drive thru Leesburg the town and then on the other side take Evergreen Mills Rd all the way to RT 50 .... 2 lane country road but moves along ... and a few curves :)

Alt Route ?? http://goo.gl/maps/Lu... .... BTW 2 good regroup spots ... Just outside Frederick at MT Zion Rd (Park and Ride) and again in leesburg at either the Safeway in town or on Evergreen Mills Rd (Elementary School) both on the right

erica I couldnt print out the route sheet..

    December 28, 2012

    • erica

where did i put it? it's a GPX file so it only works if you load it into a garmin. i have the paper copy here. just came in the mail today, and might need to be changed--doing a dry run on the 3rd.

      December 28, 2012

    • erica

I just emailed you the GPX file, there will be a change or two (or more) before Saturday, so this one is not set in stone. You won't be able to print it because it's a GPX file. There will also be paper lists on Saturday.

    THINGS YOU'LL NEED:
    1. 2-way radio
    2. printouts of the route sheets (OK to print here if you don't bring one)
    3. and/or the GPX file; shoot me an email at [masked]
    4. optional: Garmin (bring it in if you'll need to upload the GPX file)

IF YOU'RE GOING TO THE DCMM PARTY AFTERWARD IN FAIRFAX (our destination), you will need to RSVP with them, bring a pot luck dish, and bring something for their gift exchange (when you RSVP, tell them if you're participating, and what food you'll bring)

Mike Rudolph in NJ (or PA?) has planned a drive for us, but it's like...4 hours. Not sure people are going to be up for that, I might revise...I've never done one that long...

      December 25, 2012

    • erica

It's being shortened to 2ish hours. Files will be here tomorrow afternoon. Excited! Even if it's only Catia and me, we'll have an awesome time :)

      December 26, 2012

  • erica

Drive is planned, is being shortened. Won't be more than 2-2.5 hours. Stay tuned.
