Field Trip to OHF Drumming

Join R. Tigre Cruz for a First Friday Drumming

Drum lesson at 7:30PM
Open drum circle at 8:30PM.

The class is $10 and the drum circle is free (donations welcome).

Tigre Cruz is a Rhythmic Modern Era Shaman, a drum instructor,recording and performing vocalist, drummer and is a drum circle facilitator, based in College Park, MD.

In his 37th year of drumming, studying, training, and/or instructing classical and modern percussion, he has acquired a wealth of experience in band, orchestra, marching band and competitive drum corps.

He has been immersed in traditional West African Djembe drumming and technique for over a decade. He has studied drumming and drum circle facilitation, and recorded CDs with Jaqui MacMillan. He has performed with and/or learned from Daveed Korup, Eesa Grayson, Mamady Keita and Jim Donovan of Rusted Root among others. Tigre has facilitated many groups to shape intentions and drum circles for a variety of reasons: ritual, meditation, inspiration, trance, healing and enjoyment.

Tigre has co-created formal and informal ceremonies, and taught classes for multiple regional and national organizations such as Sacred Well, Carolina Spirit Quest The Mid-Atlantic Men's Gathering, Free Spirit Alliance and the Sacred Space Conference. He joined the band Kiva in 2005 as lead set and hand percussionist and a vocalist, has recorded multiple CDs and multiple singles and also has joined the band Keltish in 2011. He has most recently performed for a 2000 seat sold out Eva Cassidy Tribute performance at Maryland's Strathmore Theater with Amikaeyla Gaston and Trelawney Rose.
