Samhain Ritual with Katrina Messenger

Rain or Shine. The site is a covered picnic shelter that is spacious and gorgeous. We can easily have an indoors ritual here!

Your organizers will be there to start setting up and decorating in the late morning to early afternoon.  As we have the pavilion ALL day, feel free to come early and enjoy the park.

Ritual Prep: 2 PM. Please try and be here at this time. We will go over details of the ritual and working so you can make the fullest contribution.

UPDATE: We have some invocations that still need volunteers.  Please use the 'Contact Organizer' button or email your organizers if you'd like to be a part of the invocations.

Ritual Begins: 2:30 PM, about 1 hours long.

UPDATE: The focus of the ritual will be Honoring the Ancestors.  There will be an offering table and Ancestor Altar set up so please bring item that connect you to the Ancestors or an offering to share with Them (something that can be taken with you at the end of the ritual as we cannot leave anything in the park).  We have obtained an alcohol permit to remove the worry of those whose offerings tend to be alcoholic in nature (please note: disrespectful, illegal and/or disruptive behavior will not be tolerated).

Pot luck feast at close of the ritual: Please bring an item to share. There is electricity in the shelter for crock pots, etc.

Join CMP in our Fall Food Drive. We will be collecting food items for the Maryland Food Bank and pet food and litter for BARCS, the Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter.

Directions: Precise Location: Patapsco Valley State Park--Site 300, Hollofield Picnic area (Ellicott City entrance). Best access is off of Rt. 40

The site is off of Route 40 in Patapsco State Park, between Ellicott City and Catonsville--east of Route 29 and west of I-695.

Don't forget there's are park fees, $3 per person in-state, $5 per person out-of-state (they look at your plates)

Also a google for "Hollowfield Area Patapsco" works fairly well.

Thanks so much for allowing my coven ( Coven of Khemet) and I to participate in the rite yesterday. HP Katrina was awesome! We had an wonderful time and it was great to be involved in a rite personally. Since I'm a new to Wicca, I was very happy to be around other pagans in a welcoming and loving atmosphere. Thanks agian for your group's hospitality! I'm always nervous being the newbie on the block. :-)

Hi Kat, I would love to come, but will have to figure out what I am going to do with my minions during the ritual. I will work on it. I miss you all!

    October 23, 2013

Anna, We had minions the same age as yours during the ritual last year. We're near a playground and a bathroom :)

I am bringing my two little ones, Daddy is going to keep an eye on them during the ritual. Hopefully the playground won't be too cold.

    Silly question.How should we dress?

    1 · October 22, 2013

    • Alicia

The pavilion is not heated, and it's not fully enclosed. You're safe from rain, but not from wind or cool weather. It'll probably be a few degrees cooler with all the trees and shaded. I think it's ADA, with stone or paved walk + floors; I'm not much for heels tho. Regardless of what you wear, I would suggest layers... looks like sunny but only 47-50 deg.

      1 · October 22, 2013

    • Kat

Mac, not a silly question :) DD and Alicia are right, dress for the weather and to make yourself feel right for ritual. I'm sure we will have a mix of ritual robes and jeans.

  • Zatanya

Hi I just joined this group, so this will be my first time attending something like this in this life time. I am interested to see what this is all about. Do I have to bring an offering?

    3 · October 22, 2013

    • Kat

Zatanya, welcome to the group! No, you don't have to bring an offering but we do ask that you bring something to share at the pot-luck afterwards.

So is anyone else bringing kids? I thought if there were other kids, I could get them together to do something fun...carving pumpkins.

    October 21, 2013

  • Alicia

Hey, I know some other witches who are interested in this event, and I thought I'd mention the few things I mentioned to them. Bring beverages, soda or water, or whatever you'd like to drink. Last year there were only a few drinks that people brought drinks and they went quickly (there's a fridge on site).

And dress warmly and in layers because it's a concrete structure with stone walls that have opening to the outside air. If it's windy, overcast, rainy--- then it will be chilly. Last year was unseasonably warm...

    4 · October 11, 2013

    • Kat

Alicia, you are brilliant! Once I get the ritual details finalized I'll be updating the description again and I will add these suggestions!

      1 · October 11, 2013

    • Alicia

I was just trying to think of the things I wouldn't normally think about. Weather and appetite, gotta control the things you can. ;) I'd help if I wrote in English better, essshhh grammar.

Should the dish be vegetarian? Any other things to keep in mind?

    2 · September 26, 2013

    • Kat

Thanks for asking. I know some of our members are vegetarian but many of us are omnivores. I think the best guideline is to bring something that you would like to eat and we'll label vegetarian/vegan dishes on site.

      2 · September 27, 2013

This is a great site, last year was wonderful; I'm sure this year won't been any exception. Don't forget there's are park fees, $3 per person in-state, $5 per person out-of-state (they look at your plates).

Oh, I can do tasty!! I make asian indian cuisine. My Indian customer say I'm not too bad. Lol. I may bring vegetable samosas with chutney, probably tamirind.

  • STEVE G.

    What should I bring?

    September 13, 2013

    • Kat

Steve, something tasty. Maria is working with Katrina to see if there is anything people need to bring for the ritual. Once we know an email will go out and I'll put it in the description.

Family friendly? Mine are a little young to participate, but Daddy usually doesn't mind occupying them elsewhere until the ceremony is complete.

    1 · August 16, 2013

The park itself is very family friendly so I don't see a problem. We had some children last year too.
