Yule Rite and Vigil (with a fun pajama party to boot)!

We are having a Yule ritual with an open circle on Friday evening, and having a proper overnight vigil with fun, food, and games ending with a dawn rite on Saturday morning.  You are free to join us only for the Friday evening ritual, come after the ritual and stay for the party, or stay for the vigil and join us for the dawn rite!

This can be a very deep rite, even though lots of silliness ensues during the night. For those who stay the night, you stand vigil on the longest night to ensure the birth of a new year. This rite goes back millennia, and staying up can put you into a bit of a trance state and connect you with some incredible ancestral energy. Most cultures had rites or vigils for the birth of a new year, and you are tapping in to that -- all while playing games and snacking!

Plans are evolving quickly, but here is the tentative schedule:

What to Bring

Please bring a potluck dish, ideally something with some thought or care, and your warm smile.

If you have a god or goddess or item you wish to celebrate and include for the altar, please bring that.

The ritual is kid friendly, but we ask that children be attended to or at least well behaved.  For those staying overnight, something comfy to sleep in if you wish to sleep, a pair of pajamas or comfortable clothing, and something warm to wear in case you wish to attend the outdoor Yule fire. Please read about the Oath Log part of the ritual, so you can think about things in advance! Finally, we could use a few things for the vigil like a coffee maker or two. If you wish to offer games, feel free to bring one!

The vigil closes at dawn. Weather depending, we will all go outside to welcome the new day. Please make sure you have some clothes to handle that... even it if it just a comfy blanket!

Arrive before 8:15 PM, or come after 9 PM.

Yule Rite Prep 8:00 PM

We will go over the ritual, which will be about 30 - 40 minutes in length, and collect our thoughts so our energies will be united in ritual.

Yule Rite 8:15 PM (but possibly as late as 8:30 PM)

Ritual is designed to be a complete ritual for those who are not staying for the vigil, and an opening for the vigil to those who plan on staying until the closing rite.

Intention is to celebrate Yule, open a space for the vigil, as well as prepare the space for fun and merriment.

We will have an Oath Log.  People may step forward in the ritual and boast about their accomplishments this past year, and make intentions for what they will accomplish this next year. This is a great time to ask for divine guidance and intervention to help manifest your desires. Please remember that this rite has Norse origins, so make intentions that you actively intend to pursue.  While it is recommended that your intentions be spoken aloud, you are welcome to state them silently if privacy is needed.

You are welcome to wear ritual robes, but your stylish pajamas or festive clothes are encouraged!

Yule Party 9:00 PM

If you arrive late, please wait until the ritual closes and join us here.  You are welcome to stay until the closing rite in the morning even if you were not present.  We will have some yummy food and drinks, but are counting on your thoughtful contributions to really make this memorable!

Candles will be lit throughout the night to measure the hours until dawn by those that are staying for the vigil.

In modern times, my experience is that some people are crashed out in a puppy pile or in their sleeping bags in rooms at 2 AM, others talk or scry in the fires, and a group of people play roleplaying or board games.  I have a ton of Euro games, and if people want I can run a D&D Next game for however many wish.  Do not feel limited by ideas, and if you wish use the FB group or these comments to discuss your contributions.

We are a donation based group so any contribution is appreciated.  Supplies, space, and website fees must be paid for, and your generous contributions help us grow and offer even better events in the future!  If you're interested in finding out where the money goes please take a look at the 'Money' tab under group tools.

Dawn Rite 7:15(ish) AM

This rite is usually filled with giggles and mis-speaking, as some people are just too damned tired to do it right.  That is okay, the gods love mirth, and this is one of the classic rituals in which the gods laugh with you.  A new year has begun!  You spent some time this night contemplating your oaths, and here you release what holds you back and greet this new year with a strong spirit and pure intentions.

Optional post Dawn Rite breakfast.

Depending on the number of people, and schedules, we can arrange a community breakfast that morning.  Please discuss in the notes!

Please add in the comments if you plan on staying for the vigil.  It helps us plan.  Also, I suspect several people are coffee drinkers, and while we have a number of providers nearby, we need some overnight coffee machines, so please let us know.

Please also put in the comments what kind of dish you plan on bringing, so others may fill in the gaps.  Consider making something that people with food restrictions or food allergies can enjoy.

You are encouraged to bring your well tended children to our Yule celebration!

Please mark dishes that are not completely obvious what they are. For example, lentils with chicken broth, please make a small card saying lentils (chicken broth). If your dish is specifically gluten free please mark it. People who are gluten sensitive tend to presume all dishes as guilty unless the cook is aware and plans it in their dish.

Finally, an event that doesn't conflict with the rest of my schedule. Hi, I'm Todd. I've been wanting to come to a CMP event for some time ant there's always been a conflict. I'd like to stay for the full night vigil if that's alright.
