New Teacher Free Supply Store

  • Aug 13, 2013 · 9:00 AM

HOPE for Teachers in Central Maryland (https://www.facebook.com/HOPEforTeachers) and the Student Education Association at Anne Arundel Community College (https://www.facebook.com/AACCSEA) have teamed up to give the participants at the AACPS New Teacher Orientation free supplies for their classrooms. We could use a few more volunteers to help on the day of the event (particularly with transporting boxes in the AM)!

Here's a brief overview:

We asked teachers in Anne Arundel County to donate unwanted, new and gently used items from their classrooms. Seven schools agreed to participate!

We drove to each building to collect their supplies after the last day of school. They surprised us with rooms full of donations!

We counted and sorted all of the items so we could convince AACPS that we had enough to set up a decent store. 50+ cardboard boxes full did the trick!

Now we need YOUR help to finish this project (and this really is the fun part)!

On Tuesday, August 13th, we will be moving the cardboard boxes from their storage location in Glen Burnie to a local middle school. Our little "store" will have to be organized using the tables in the school cafeteria (we can do it!). Then, as part of their New Teacher Orientation, the teachers will have one hour to look through the items and take anything and everything they can use in their classrooms...for free!

Schedule:
9:00-9:30 Load boxes into vehicles at Glen Burnie house (address will be emailed to all volunteers)

9:30-9:45 Drive to middle school (address will be emailed to all volunteers)

9:45-11:15 Unload boxes and arrange supplies on school cafeteria tables

11:30-12:30 Teachers visit store! Volunteers will help shoppers pack/carry items and work to keep the tables organized

12:30-1:30 Clean up remaining items and bring boxes back to Glen Burnie house

If you are interested in helping for all or part of the day, please let us know by adding your name to the list here or by sending an email to [masked]. Just include a comment about what time you are able to volunteer, and we'll be in touch!

Thanks in advance! :)
