Maryland Food Bank

The Maryland Food Bank needs an accurate estimate of how many people will be volunteering for this event, so please update your RSVP as soon as possible if you aren't able to make it to this event.

The Maryland Food Bank was founded in 1979 to coordinate the procurement and distribution of food donations from manufacturers, wholesalers, retailers and government agencies to organizations providing free food to the state's hungry.

Volunteers usually work on a high-tech conveyor belt in the warehouse, pulling specific types of food from the belt as they pass, and packing the sorted food into 25 - 50-pound boxes. Full boxes are then placed on the Maryland Food Bank's daily menu, available for more than 600 soup kitchens, pantries and shelters across the state to order.

Additional volunteer info can be found at the MD Food Bank's website, at www.mdfoodbank.org.

Whew, quite the workout this time without the conveyor belt! But still fun. Thanks everyone for rolling with the punches, pulling together and making it work!

Hi Mitch, I had two questions:
    1. It looks like the RSVP list now contains 21 people instead of 12. Am in included in the list on purpose or by mistake :)
    2. Is there safe parking in the area?

We were given more volunteer slots than usual this month. The warehouse has it's own parking lot with plenty of spaces for everyone.

Don't forget to update your RSVP today if you can't make it on Saturday. We still have 18 people on the waiting list.

Also, don't forget to update your RSVP if you're on the waiting list and can no longer make it.

Something came up, so will bow out and let someone on the wait list volunteer. Hope to make it another Saturday!

    I got waitlisted too :(

We still have quite a large waiting list -- currently 21 people!

The Spring weather often causes people to change their plans so **PLEASE** remember to update your RSVP if you can't make it to this event on May 10 -- even if you're on the waiting list.

No-shows are particularly frowned upon when we have this many people available to take an available spot!

Hopefully everyone saw the email I sent out yesterday regarding some of the RSVPs that I accidentally changed.

I've made a couple of corrections since then, but if anyone else was accidentally moved to the waiting list, just let me know.

Also, please remember to update your RSVP if you can't make it on May 10, even if you're on the waiting list.

26 people currently on the waiting list. Boy I wish I could invite more than 12 people. (I'll check with the Food Bank and update if we're allowed more volunteers.)

Please remember to update your RSVP as soon as possible if you aren't able to make it.

Mitch, I was one of the first to sign up. Now I am last on the waiting list! How did that happen?

Mitch, due to prior obligations, I can only stay until 1130. Is that ok, or would it be best for me to allow someone from the wait list to take my place.

    • Mitch

Should be fine if you need to leave at 1130.
