Maryland Food Bank

The Maryland Food Bank needs an accurate estimate of how many people will be volunteering for this event, so please update your RSVP as soon as possible if you aren't able to make it to this event.

=======================================

IMPORTANT VOLUNTEER INFO:

Open-toe shoes are PROHIBITED at the warehouse.  Wear clothes that you don't mind getting dirty (which probably won't happen, but it's a possibility).

Please arrive to the warehouse ON TIME.  We can't begin until EVERYONE is at the warehouse.

Additional volunteer info can be found at the MD Food Bank's website, at www.mdfoodbank.org.

=======================================

The Maryland Food Bank was founded in 1979 to coordinate the procurement and distribution of food donations from manufacturers, wholesalers, retailers and government agencies to organizations providing free food to the state's hungry.

Volunteers usually work on a high-tech conveyor belt in the warehouse, pulling specific types of food from the belt as they pass, and packing the sorted food into 25 - 50-pound boxes. Full boxes are then placed on the Maryland Food Bank's daily menu, available for more than 600 soup kitchens, pantries and shelters across the state to order.

    Several people still on the waiting list. Don't forget to update your RSVP if you can't make it on Saturday.

  • Mitch

    REMINDER: As a courtesy to the many people on the waiting list, PLEASE remember to update your RSVP -- even if you're on the waiting list -- as soon as possible (NO LATER THAN Wed, Dec 10) if you can't make it to the MD Food Bank on Sat, Dec 13.

    Prompt RSVP updates help us to give advance notice to those on the waiting list who are being moved up to the volunteer list. Last-minute cancellations often result in fewer volunteers at this event, and we MUST fill all available volunteer positions. We'd like to maintain our reputation with the MD Food Bank for having a very reliable group of volunteers!

    Thanks again to everyone for the strong interest we continue to receive at this very popular event!

    Notice to those on the waiting list: We currently have one spot open for the afternoon shift. I'm going to open up RSVPs for that shift to the general membership soon -- maybe later today or tomorrow.

    If you'd like me to move you to the 12-3p shift, let me know as soon as possible.

    As always, please remember to update your RSVP if you can't make it.

    The Maryland Food Bank had a cancellation for the afternoon shift (12-3pm) on Dec 13. The Volunteer Coordinators at MFB have asked us to open up 8 volunteer positions to anyone on our waiting list for the Dec 13 morning shift. If you're on the waiting list and are available for the 12-3pm shift on Dec 13, let me know and I'll move you off the waiting list for the morning shift, and add you to the afternoon shift. (If the afternoon shift fills up, I can add you to the waiting list for the afternoon shift.)

    The 12-3 shift will open for everyone to sign up on Monday, Dec 8. Until then, the afternoon shift will remain closed to RSVPs to the general membership.

      Can you start getting more spots in the future? I had a reminder set and missed it.

      November 26

    • Mitch

      I just sent a request to the Volunteer Coordinators at MFB for more volunteer spots. Based on their out-of-office replies, we should be hearing back from them over the next week or so (once they get back from the Thanksgiving holiday).
