Serving Lunch at My Sister's Place

Join Us!
We will be serving lunch to the women and children at My Sister's Place Women's Center in Downtown Baltimore. The shift is for 1.5 hours from 12 pm - 1:30 pm.

We will be serving approximately 50 people casseroles and/or other lunch items  All food items will be provided by My Sister's Place so you will not be expected to bring anything.  The heating or cooking of items will be supervised by an onsite staff member.

Our Duties

  • Warm food
  • Set out items
  • Serve Guests
  • Refill Drinks
  • Clear Plates

A Note on Attendance

My Sister's Place relies on volunteers to carry out their mission of providing 3 meals a day to their clients.  When volunteers do not show, it makes their job that much harder. If you cannot attend, please remove your RSVP or call the Event host to let them know.  A no show deprives people on the wait list a chance to volunteer.

More Info
They do have a small area available for your coats, keys, purses, etc. (Please leave as much of your personal items at home as possible) PLEASE wear closed toe flat, rubber-soled shoes. for your safety in the kitchen!! NO OPEN TOE SHOES They do provide hairnets and aprons, but please feel free to bring your own apron and hat! At this time of the day there is plenty of street parking on Charles and Franklin St.  There is also a parking garage right next door

My Sister's Place
My Sister’s Place Women’s Center, which opened on November 20, 2008, is a comprehensive resource center welcoming Baltimore’s homeless and poor women and their children. The mission of the program is to provide a safe, supportive environment where vulnerable women and their families can access housing, referrals, life skills training, and other resources to achieve and sustain self-sufficiency. MSPWC is the combined new home of three existing Catholic Charities programs: My Sister's Place, the Samaritan Center, and Families that Work, and provides, among other things, housing assistance, education and life skills training, benefits advice and enrollment, case management, emergency financial assistance, linkages to other community providers (e.g., for mental health and addiction services), financial literacy services, and personal services (e.g., shower and laundry facilities, mail and telephone access, etc.) MSPWC also provides three meals each day to women and children in need. It is projected that the program will serve between 75 and 125 women and children daily. Amenities include a day room with comfortable seating, a fireplace and mounted television. Three large classrooms are available for workshops. A large kitchen allows volunteers to prepare meals and a dining area holds adjacent cubicles for outside provider assistance. Offices for staff allow privacy and an enclosed play area is provided for children. Flower-filled window boxes hang from windows.

It was okay. A few vounlteer's think they should only "serve", the clients. Me & Tom did an awesome job, behind the scenes. He ran the dishwasher, I stacked plates, cups, bowls, silverware and washed pots and pans. A humbling experience!

Courtney, I need you to check this out for me. I thought I was on the list for confirmation concerning: My Sister's Place this Sunday. I look today and see that I'm not listed as attending or even on the waiting list. I received a confirmation on Wed./Thur. If that's not the case, please advise me. There are other opportunites out there, I'm sure somebody needs a willing volunteer. Thanks!

I'd like to thank the Event Hostess, Ms. Courtney. I know there are people who still want to serve @ My sister's Place but haven't been approved. Maybe I was in the right place at the right time. Again, thanks!

I know that the RSVP's closed on Nov. 15, for Nov. 25, 2012. I see that since Sunday, one spot has opened up. I would like to be considered for that spot. Contact me at my email address or my cell #. Thanks in advance, for being considered!

Hi, my name is Debbie. I thought that this might be a great opportunity for me, to give of myself. I used to work in a restaurant and a cafe, years ago. Wasn't quite sure what I wanted to do with my time. This sounded great. Get back to me Courtney, as soon as a spot opens up, for another volunteer. Thanks!!
