Baltimore Reads Book Bank

The Baltimore Reads Book Bank has provided more than 1,000,000 new and gently used children's books to disadvantaged families in Baltimore since 1992. Their goal is to spark family reading at home by making sure there are plenty of books available.

Volunteers are needed to help organize books at the Book Bank. On days when the weather is favorable, volunteer organizers at the Book Bank often arrange for volunteers to work outdoors!

The Book Bank is located at the back of The Baltimore Sun warehouse complex. The Book Bank can be difficult to find, so be sure to follow the directions at www.baltimorereads.org/directions-and-hours.html.

This event has been very popular with volunteers who work with children. An extra benefit of sorting books for the Baltimore Reads Book Bank is the nostalgia trip you'll experience when you see books that you just might remember from your childhood...!

For those who are interested, we may go to lunch at a nearby restaurant after this event.

Are we still working outside tomorrow.?

We usually work outside when it's a little warmer, but we'll see. There's usually plenty to do indoors as well as outdoors.

    In answer to D.L.S.:

When an event is open for RSVP, you're allowed to sign up, but you're automatically added to the waiting list if the event is full.

We're limited to 20 volunteers because the warehouse tends to get crowded when we have a lot of volunteers, along with the people who are looking for books (mostly teachers and parents).

Wow, we've had a lot of people sign up for this event in the past couple of days!

I'll let the Book Bank know that we might have a large group on the 19th, in case they have any big projects they want us to work on. If so, I hope everyone can still make it as we get closer to Jan 19!
