Lets be a catalyst for change in the community
Habitat for Humanity of the Chesapeake (HFHC) was chosen as one of only four affiliates nationwide to co-host this year?s Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Work Project. The project will kick-off on October 4th, World Habitat Day, with the Carters traveling and building in six cities to highlight the need for stable communities and healthy, affordable housing.
The 2010 Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Work Project focuses on neighborhood revitalization in urban areas around the United States. Former President and Mrs. Carter are Habitat for Humanity?s most famous volunteers and give a week of their time each year to help Habitat build, renovate or repair homes and raise awareness about the need for affordable and decent housing. This project has been a catalyst for increasing the work being done in local communities and empowering people to spread hope, stability, and housing solutions nationwide.
The Carter Work Project in Maryland will:
? Support the building of 20 homes:
- 10 homes on Clay Street, Annapolis
- 10 homes on Jefferson Street, East Baltimore
? Volunteer to do new construction and rehab existing row homes
? Raise awareness of housing issues across our service area
Habitat for Humanity of the Chesapeake is looking for volunteers to help build these 20 houses during the Carter Work Project week beginning October 4th, 2010!What do you have to do to volunteer?
To build Wednesday-Saturday during this exciting week, all volunteers must be 18 and older and need to raise a $500 minimum per day as their ?ticket? to build on site.
If you want to build during President Carter Day, Tuesday, October 5th, volunteers need to raise a $1,000 minimum for that day only.*All funds raised will go to the affiliate to support Habitats ongoing work in the Baltimore and Annapolis communities to eradicate poverty housing.How do we raise money?
