Central Missouri Honor Flight Escort

This is the 21th escort run. There is generally a meet-up at Mid America HD in Columbia, Jefferson City, Ashland and various other locations in the area.

Staging: BP Gas Station (west parking area) in Kingdom City, MO at NW corner of the junction of I-70 and Hwy 54.

ITINERARY:

Staging at 10pm - Kingdom City

Schedule indicates that the bus should go through Kingdom City at 12:20am with a 12:45am arrival at the Courtyard Marriott in Columbia.

As always, the time posted can change.  It can change as late as the day of the flight. Boz or Tammy will update times when he gets word on the flight. There are many factors that can effect the time that the buses come through Kingdom City.  So check back often for updates.

Escort will be from Kingdom City to Columbia with the Hwy Patrol Assistance joined by the Columbia Police, Sheriff's Association and University Police. The fire department does such a cool thing too with that big flag hanging on the boom which is awesome.

For those that are new to this, here is how it works. With the Hwy Patrol's assistance, the progress of the buses is monitored. As they get closer to Kingdom City, we move out onto the Interstate on-ramp and wait. When they pass us, we take off in pursuit with Patrol escort, blinkers a flashing, and pipes a barking, and pass the buses to get in front of them to escort them to the Courtyard By Marriott Hotel in Columbia. The various law enforcement agencies block all the intersections, again with lights a flashing to help the Flight get safely to it's destination. Once we get there, we help the veterans off the buses and into the hotel. It is a truly awesome experience and the Veterans appreciate it so much. You'll never know until you see the happy and tearful expressions on their faces.

IMPORTANT THINGS TO REMEMBER!!

The times posted here are subject to change.  So many factors can effect the schedule so please check back closer to the date.  We will update the meetup with any changes.

The Honor Flight is a special event and if you have never attended one I want to encourage you to do so.  With that being said, I know not everyone can.  This is a late night event and most of us have to get up and work the next day.  Some of us live to far away to ride home afterwards, and money and time off my prevent us from being able to get a hotel room.  We understand this and know that if you are not there for the escort, you are there in spirit.

Hotel Information

In the past, the Marriott extended the Honor Flight rate to riders.  If you need a hotel, check with them first and tell them you are an Honor Flight Rider.

Stoney Creek Inn may be offering the same rates to the riders as they do to the Veteran's.

About Central Missouri Honor Flight
We are a non-profit organization created solely to honor America's veterans for all their sacrifices. The group transports our heroes to Washington, D.C., to visit and reflect at their memorials. Top priority is given to senior veterans - WWII survivors, along with other veterans who may be terminally ill.

Of all the wars in recent memory, it was WWII that truly threatened our very existence as a nation and free society. Now, with more than 1,000 WWII veterans dying each day (20 each day in Missouri), our time to express our thanks to these brave men and women is running out.

Central Missouri Honor Flight will do whatever it takes to fulfill the dreams of our veterans and help them travel at no cost. Subsequent to the WWII veterans, our efforts will turn to our Korean War and then Vietnam War veterans.

Please, if you know a WWII Veteran that has not been on the flight and would like to go, put them in touch with the Honor Flight.  The Honor Flight can accommodate Veterans with health problems.  Don't let a health issue keep you from applying.

Small group this time. I think around 170 bikes were there. It was an honor to escort these veterans.

What an honor! One of the Korean War veterans asked if I was cold out there...I told them that we didn't feel anything but pride... He shook my hand and said thank you!

I had to vote that day. Sorry folks but thanks for the invite. I'm registered in Ohio so that's where I had to be. Maybe another time?

It was one of the most incredible rides I have ever been a part of, it was my first escort but hopefuly not my last. My father in law would like to thank all the escort riders and everyone who helped make this night happen.

Nichole. If you show up at the shop, there is a good chance that you will get a ride.

I got word this morning that things are on time. If you have a group meeting and riding out together, please post in case others want to join you.

For those that want to ride out from the Columbia HD shop, we are leaving at around 10.

I'm proud too say that my father in law will be on this honor flight and I am glad that I can be a part of this wonderful display of respect.
