discounted all day charter in PA

This offer is from AAA with smaller further discount for members (2 1/2 - 5%). I listed the URL in the discussion thread. It's $348 for up to 6 people which comes out to less than $60, about the same as a party boat and it's all day. The tricky part is setting a date and getting the money in advance. Let me know what you think by responding yes if you are interested and commenting. Or join the discussion thread and follow it, so we can develop this if there is interest. Description follows.

Description

Very skillfully run, and a pleasure to meet all of you.

It's funny, I'm having trouble with the math, I guess because Steve subsidized us, but unfortunately there is no extra money toward paying the meetup fee, except $5 from Mike. Here's the math. I put out $330, making it $260 for other people than myself, pricing at the final price of $70 each. I got in $275 for the original payment for 5 spaces plus $45 extra from the 3 who attended, making $320. Refunding Steve $60 makes me come out even at $260. Just so we all see how this worked out.

It wasa lot of fun. We caught lots of fish, the skipper and mate were very helpful. Not too many keepers, but a few...none by me. But it was really fun.

Steve, it was a lot of fun. We caught a lot of fish, but mostly little ones. There were a couple of bass caught by Mike and Esther. We had a great time, weathered a storm or two, and stayed all day once the sky cleared up. It sounds like you had a great time as well and bigger fish to fry, as it were. We collected $15/person or $60 to refund to you. Just send me your address ([masked]) and I'll send you a check. The $50 we decided could go toward paying for the meetup dues.

I had a great time. It was nice to meet some of the group members. Like Mike said the place is beautiful. The fish were not huge but everyone was able to pull something out of the water whether it was edible or not...LOL The mates were very friendly and attentive. Looking forwards to the next fishing trip. Thank you Allison for all your efforts and make in it happen. It was very nice to meet you Ben and Mike!

So, how did it go? Any good catches? Pictures? I was fishing in the Keys for a bachelor party with a longtime friend. Slow fishing day for us, I had the biggest with a 13 lb almaco jack, plus we put a pair of keeper dolphin in the boat and one yellowtail snapper.

Excellent venue for the group. Everyone caught fish and we had an enjoyable day on the lake in spite of a brief rain shower. We caught bass, sunfish and bluegill. Beautiful lake in the mountains provided some breathtaking views of the Pocono mountains. Allison, our leader, did a great job in organizing this event and finding this location.

This heavy weather should clear tonight with a few showers up there just around daybreak. After that, partly cloudy, low 70's temps until the afternoon then chance of a few thundershowers. Looks like we can sneak in a good day if we watch out for the thunderstorms. It will be humid and bring insect repellent!

Right now, chance of rain is 10%, and I'm guessing that there's an even smaller chance of there being enough rain to cancel. But in addition to anything else we do in case of a change of plans, let's make sure the update gets posted here on this board by whoever's first in a position to. I'll certain check messages and weather before leaving.

    July 25, 2012

  • Allison

We need to be there by 8:45, but let's make it 8:30 to be on the safe side. According to my email from Matthew Walsh, it's possible that they cancel it because of rain. We should check in with him if it's unclear. His number is[masked]-6620. I will and you can check in with me. My cell is[masked]-5171. I think we should exchange cell #s. I don't know what it's like but I'm going to be using my sea sickness medicine and wrist magnets just in case. Hats, sunscreen, jacket if they go fast.

Actually, I've been paid, since Ben has sent me a check. It's Steve who paid for two people who is out the money now. He's out $110. Let me add it up, I've gotten money from Mike, Esther, Ben, and Steve, which is 5 slots, and I'm the sixth. It's really Steve who we would need to pay back.

    July 25, 2012

  • Esther D.

Thank you Mike. Look forwards to meeting you all and a great time.

    July 25, 2012

  • Mike

Esther, I totally agree and we can settle on the additional amount and pay Allison on Sunday.

    July 25, 2012

  • Esther D.

When I signed up I was the number six person in the group before Steve had to cancel. We all knew that it was either $55 for six people and $60 for five. I hope not to be speaking out of turn but If all of us give an additional $5 towards the trip it will cover the cost of the extra ticket. I urge everyone to pay the extra $5 and get this deal closed. Yes, it will be nice to pay less but I believe Allison deserve a break. Hopefully you all do too. It's time to seal the deal and think "FISHING!"

    July 25, 2012

  • Allison

Thanks, Ben. At this point, we have one spot open if anyone knows anyone who is interested.

I spoke with the guy today to see if anything needed to be added here. The one thing we all must bring, of course, is a Pennsylvania fishing license. I asked him if he recommended getting a trout stamp, and he said no, don't bother, because only two trout have been caught on their trips so far this season. Do bring a catch cooler if you plan to keep your catch, and it's okay to keep the cooler in the car and transfer them at the end of the day. Arrival time for us is between 8:30-8:45 a.m.

Anthony, Atlantic Highlands is at the end of Rt 36, about 15 miles east of the Parkway exit 117. Pt Pleasant is at exit 98 or 91 and is close to the Parkway. With all the traffic lights and traffic on Rt36 Pt is faster to get to and only a few miles further.

I will be on LBI in August if anyone would be interested in a party boat out of Viking Village by Barnegat Lighthouse. August 5-10 would be good for me.

I'm from Clifton so Atlantic Highlands is closer. Not sure how point pleasant is closer but either is fine. Be nice to actually go fishing for a change.

    July 19, 2012

  • Mike

OK, I have a friend/guest to take one of Steve's slots.

    July 19, 2012

  • Mike

I may have a friend who can take one slot. Waiting to hear back from her.

    July 19, 2012

  • Allison

Steve, that's such a shame. At this point you and I have equal financial commitments. And I'm using one of mine. Hopefully, someone will step up and take your spots and you can get a refund. This trip is going to be a lot of fun and different. Let's get it together and sign up. You do need a PA Fishing License though.

    July 19, 2012

  • Steve W.

Fisher-people, I have had a conflict come up, and won't be able to make it now. Due to late notice, I've had a hard time replacing my two spots out of my personal connections, so if anyone wants to use my alread-paid pair of spots, feel free. In fact, I would encourage anyone with a party of three to use my two spots and to buy the final open spot from Allison to ease her financial committment, this way you can take three people fishing for just $55.

    July 19, 2012

  • Esther D.

The check is in the mail. You should get it within the next few days. I am thrilled to be able to go. I know what you mean when you say about commitments and money. Believe me, I understand completely. I hope this is the first of many more to come... Looking forwards to meeting everyone!

    July 6, 2012

  • Allison

I'm so glad you are going. Check should be made out to me and here's the address: Allison Carter, Rowan Univ./Sociology, 201 Mullica Hill Rd., Glassboro, NJ 08028. We don't do this very often; this is the first time. Usually, it's just show up or not and pay when you get there. I asked for the money because I had to put it out in advance and I wanted to make sure that the people who said they were coming didn't back out and eliminate others. It was several hundred dollars.

    July 6, 2012

  • Esther D.

Allison, are the checks to be made out to you? I will be sending the money today once I know if that it's so. Maybe you should check into a Paypal acct. for the next event. It is a lot easier to collect the money and you don't have to worry about checks bouncing or not getting to you on time. Just a thought... Looking forwaeds to this event. Thanks

    July 6, 2012

  • Allison

It looks like the start time is 8:45 and I think it goes till 5; it's all day. They provide pizza and soft drinks for lunch. I guess we bring snacks. I hope it works, Esther. best, Allison

    July 5, 2012

  • Esther D.

Can you tell me the times that the boat leaves and at what time will it return. I need to figure out times of travel to the Poconos and my home before and after the fishing trip. I'm trying to get coverage for my work day. I would really like to go but I have some loose ends to connect.

    July 5, 2012

  • Mike

I just purchased a non resident PA fishing license on line for $26.70. Its good for 3 days and you print it out on your printer, no handling fees. Looking forward to this. Hopefully someone will take the last 2 slots, this will be a great time, I've done this before!

    June 23, 2012

  • Allison

Great! So far, I've heard you and Mike, the people who we knew were coming. We've got 2 open spaces if anyone is interested.

    June 15, 2012

  • Steve W.

    "The check's in the mail."

    June 15, 2012

  • Allison

That's fine...just reminding people. It seems like we have 4 and it would be great if we get 2 more. Claudio won't know until the end of June. And that would leave one spot, if anyone is interested.

    June 1, 2012

  • Steve W.

I'm good for the money, just waiting for my next paycheck on 6/8. Will send out then.

    June 1, 2012

  • Allison

Mike just wrote that he was sending his money. I haven't received any so far. Here's the info again: At six people, it comes out to $55 each. Let's get those commitments in guys, and then we can close it. We can send the checks to my work address. That should work. Allison Carter, Rowan Univ./Sociology, 201 Mullica Hill Rd., Glassboro, NJ 08028. Thanks, I'm glad people are into this.

    June 1, 2012

  • Allison

That's a whole month before the date. No one else has expressed interest. You can't request days in advance?

    May 29, 2012

  • Claudio

unfortunately I won't know untill my work schedule come out the last week of June

    May 29, 2012

  • Allison

When will you know? It's possible no one will want the spot for a while.

    May 26, 2012

  • Claudio

unfortunately I cant commit that far ahead because of possible work obligations...if someone wants the last spot, they are welcome to it.

    May 25, 2012

  • Allison

Thanks for pointing that out. I'm not sure what their start time is, but I'll check. Glad that you are participating. Have you done something with the group before?

    May 25, 2012

  • Steve W.

Sounds good, I blocked that date off on our calendars and will get a check mailed out. Just update the time please, since I have my Google calendar linked with the meetup.com calendar, and it's currently showing us for 7pm.

    May 25, 2012

  • Allison

So far, we are four and waiting on Claudio and Joe D. At six people, it comes out to $55 each. Let's get those commitments in guys, and then we can close it. We can send the checks to my work address. That should work. Allison Carter, Rowan Univ./Sociology, 201 Mullica Hill Rd., Glassboro, NJ 08028. Thanks, I'm glad people are into this.

I want to attend. However, that weekend I will be out of state attending a wedding. If the 29th is the final date, then I will not be able to attend.

    May 25, 2012

  • Mike

I am still in and will take one spot. I think mailing you a check is the most efficient way to pay the fee. Let me know where you want it sent.

    May 25, 2012

  • Allison

It looks like there's interest. Is everyone signed up okay with the July 29th date? The other thing I should mention is that you need a PA fishing license, at least for the day. I think we need to make commitments via payment in advance to hold the spot. I'm not sure how to do that via the website, but I'll probably prefer just to get checks sent to me. What do you all suggest about how to go about this? I really appreciate that Steve is willing to commit to two spots.

    May 25, 2012

  • Steve W.

Hi Allison, I'll take the last 2 spots. My wife and I will come, and if she has something change with work and she can't come, I'm sure I can find someone to ride over with me.

    May 24, 2012

  • Allison

I heard back from the company and they only had one weekend day in July and early August, so I took it, figuring that I hadn't heard back from anyone else about weekdays. I think we can change out of the weekend if we want, but there are no other weekend days available. So I took it. Let's see if it works.

    May 17, 2012

  • Allison

That would be fine for me because summer school would be over but I'm not sure how it works out for others whose jobs are 5 days a week. Please weigh in on this, those of you who are interested. The traffic would be better.

    May 16, 2012

  • Mike

Late July is OK, depending on the day. Do we have to do this on a weekend? Weekdays would have less traffic and the lake would not be as busy. We could carpool.

    May 16, 2012

  • Allison

Does late July work for everyone and do we need to get more people. At four, it comes out to $80 or so apiece. I think we'll get more. Should we set a date? I'll contact them today.
