Learn how to make old fashioned soap out of rendered lard! Lard based soap is low lathering, so it can be used to wash dishes and clothes. It is a hard soap that lasts a long time. Janet started making lard soap in collaboration with Ryan from Phoenix Hill Farm as a way to make the most use out of the pigs Ryan was raising on her farm. (Functions of pig raising on this farm are stacked!!)
Janet will go over different oils and fats to use for different soaps and will demonstrate and walk the group through the process of making soap from scratch.
Janet King is a soap maker and artist from Canterbury, NH. She can be found selling her handmade soaps and lotions for her company Meadow Pond Soaps at local farmers markets and artisan fairs.
We are charging for this on a sliding scale of $15-$25. You will be taking home soap as well :) Course fees go to pay for meet up fees and expenses and the course leader.
(We try to make every workshop and event as affordable as possible. When you see a Sliding Scale, the larger number is a fair price for the workshop/event. In an effort to include everyone, the smaller number is for those who just can’t afford the regular price.)
