Gallery Hop, Holiday Hop edition

12/7 12:noon update. The final decision for this meetup will me made at MoJoe Lounge between 430 and 530, as I am not sure anyone is still planning on attending. Possiblities for this part of the meetup will be a shorter walk around the Short North including shopping in a couple of the vintage shops for Christmas finds, photographing the Christmas lights along the Scioto River near Milestone 229 and the Main Street Bridge, visiting the Holiday festivities at the Columbus Commons and their heated tents, "Meet Me In St Louis" at the Gateway Film Center, or some combination of the above items. I'm not changing the details below, but they may not apply, depending on who shows up. Call or text at[masked] if you plan to meet us and aren't at MoJoe and I'll tell you where we are.

We will meet up on the south end of the Short North, near MoJoe Lounge, and then walk around and take photos of the places and interesting people we see. Most of the art in the galleries will be off limits for shooting, but there will be plenty of stuff to shoot.

*Rule of thumb is ASK before shooting art. Some galleries will say it's ok.*

This is the "Holiday Hop" edition of Gallery Hop, so expect to see Santa Claus roaming the Short North this particular night! Plus, the shops will be decked out for the season.

*** I do want to point out the Short North stretches from the Convention Center all the way to 5th Avenue. There will be ample opportunities for shopping, dining, and viewing the galleries. Although I have never seen everything in one night, I can promise this will be a fun night. Dress warmly. ***

At some point, we can dip into one of the fine establishments and have some dinner. This is the Big 10 Championship weekend, so OSU is playing in Indianapolis, so the crowd should be manageable. Parking might be found in the public lot behind Sushi Rock, at meters around Goodale Park, in the downtown area just south of the Convention Center, or side streets. Be sure to observe any signs for restrictions like resident permits, etc. Let me know what questions you have, and I'll update as Gallery Hop approaches. Car pooling is encouraged, as some of us don't like driving downtown.

Call or text me at[masked] to find us. Area code 614...

We spent a little over an hour dipping in and out of galleries and shops. I did some Christmas shopping :-) It was surprisingly comfortable since we weren't outdoors constantly. When Bob and Sally split, I went down to the Scioto Mile and shot some photos of the Christmas lights and the city skyline. It sure looks different now that the river level is lower due to the dam removal just beyond the Main Street Bridge... downtown was surprisingly cold since I was NOT indoors at all.

Cancel me for outside. Next week: Columbus Metro Library downtown, COSI ON w. Broad street; Stained glass windows at Shiloh Baptist Church, just east of downtown.

I can't send a group email from my phone, but I'm curious to know... of those of us who are signed up for Gallery Hop, who wants to go regardless of the weather, and who would prefer to maybe do something different indoors?

I vote to not do an outdoor event.

Now that the Big 10 Championship game is set, I'm bowing out of the HOP. GO BUCKS!

Turnout was low when we did Gallery Hop in October because it rained all afternoon. Hopefully the weather cooperates this time. :-)

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
