    Very informative and well organized

There will be no limit on equipment. That is why the limit is set for 20. We can come back another time if anyone else wants to join. The church is very large so it can accommodate us in different locations. We have done this before with rented light equipment. Pastor likes the exposure. If you want to just go and look around, enter from the west side of the church at the back. Ring the doorbell to enter and say that Loyce Hopkins sent you. The office is on the 3rd floor.

Bob, can you get this set up in Meetup? I'm starting a new job this week and covered up with work. Thanks!

DAVID, KEVIN, BOB: What other details do you need. The location is 720 Mt. Vernon Avenue, 43203. It is truly "a city set on a hill," our motto, since it is the only building standing east of I-71 N after crossing E. Broad Street. Historical Baptist Church, organized in 1869, constructed in 1923; Listed on The National Registry of Historical Places because of architectural features and the impact of the church in the history of Columbus. Features include stained glass windows throughout, which were shipped from Germany; original balcony seating wraps around in a semi-circle; high ornate ceiling lighting make the it dark on cloudy days and too bright on sunny days with light coming from the west stained glass window. The old entrance faces the south with 40- 50 steps up to the doors. Office hours are 10-5, entering from the elevator on the west side of the church parking lot. Saturday lunch is open after 11:00. Let's limit the number to 20 for this time.

I would like to try it too. From your description it is fairly dark. So should there be a limit on equipment? Monopods, tripods, flash, lights, umbrellas? It could get quite crowded.

      February 18, 2014

    • Bob from D.

Tripods are a must in dark locations. I would think we would fit, depending on how many come of course. Flash would almost have to be off camera to light the place up properly.

Here's the info for the Big Scioty contra dance in case there is an interest in action photography. Let me know and I can contact the organizers to do a shoot perhaps after Loyce's church shoot. http://bigscioty.com/#schedule

    • Kevin W.

Yes, I think we should do one of these.

BOB AND KEVIN: I got approval for the COPC to meet at Shiloh Baptist Church for taking photographs. I will let you decide on the date and time - Saturday or Sunday. Sunday would be after 1:00. wHAT

    February 18, 2014

  • Loyce

I would be interested in action photos. Looks like fun on YouTube. I know I couldn't do it.

I forgot to mention thanks to you personally, DAVID. You guys are so knowledgeable and willing to share. I had fun today teaching someone else some of what I have learned about Elements. she was so excited and will be coming to our group.

BOB AND KEVIN: I thank for all of you who gave comments. I like your assumption that if you don't know the answer, someone in the group will know. I will check the church office for a time and date. Would people be interested in coming on Sunday right after service ends- around 1:30. I would love to have you come. We could set a limit for 20.

Good. I'm looking forward to it. Maybe your church would like some pictures to remember what it looked like before the renovation.

      February 17, 2014

    • Bob from D.

      Sounds good to me.

      February 17, 2014

  • Brenda G.

Hmmm... Can u share what you are planning? Maybe I and others would like to participate?

    February 16, 2014

  • Bob from D.

Once again we found that the group could collectively answer any question that came up.

NOTICE - Our compositional expert, Shane, has been nailed by the flu so our meeting will be a little different than planned. I will lead the discussion on composition, but will be expecting lots of comments and questions from the rest of you.
Matt has some SW he would like us to critique and we will do some Photoshop Elements tips.
If you have a photo you would like us to "Group Edit", bring it on a flash drive.

Bob If you want, I could mention my relearning of composition. Having come from a background of forensic photography, I had to change my mindset.

      February 16, 2014

    • Bob from D.

David Lambert will do the formal presentation on composition, but it would be interesting to hear your viewpoint coming from a forensics past.

Right now it's 29 and snowing here. 10AM, I have to leave by noon to get there If weather permits. How are the roads in Columbus?

    February 16, 2014

    • Kevin W.

I haven't been out, but nobody on my Facebook is saying anything bad about them. Be careful and use your best judgement, but it doesn't look like it snowed much here in Dublin.

I've been looking at your events but too intimidated to join. I just have a canon powershot sx 170, and never really took a class, or have a lot of artistic or professional experience, but photography is something I'd like to learn. Am I still okay to join some of you guys? I don't want to hold anyone back. :)

I hope you come to a meeting. I enjoy the people and I enjoy talking about taking pictures.

Ok thanks for the encouragement!!! May not be able to make this meeting but will be sure to make the next one. Looking forward to learning a lot! =)

Shalon, as far as composition goes, you don't even need a camera for that. Cut a square or rectangle in a piece of cardboard and look at scenes through it. What you see is what you are trying to get with a camera. Sometimes the camera cooperates ... a lot of times it doesn't.

    February 12, 2014

  • Loyce

BOB: I would like to see a Photoshop Elements demo of removing color cast and straightening a crooked photo.

    February 10, 2014

  • Brenda G.

Sorry to miss this - family obligation.

    February 8, 2014

  • Elise

If I don't work that day, I'd be willing to share some Photoshop know-how. I do a little bit of everything in Photoshop and can translate most of it to Elements.

    January 19, 2014

    • Bob from D.

Great, Let me know as soon as you know.

      January 19, 2014

  • Loyce

Please keep the 1:30 time frame. Then I can make it after I go to church first.
It will be helpful to have the table up so that we have a place to put the laptops and tables.

this is a comfortable place to meet, just far from my homes since I live far southeast, near Bexley, Ohio. Anyone want to carpool? Let me know.
