Historical Baptist Church Photography

Remember, it's always a good idea to check the Meetup site before heading out in case something has affected the date, time, or place. If Meetup is down, we will announce urgent things on our Facebook page.

Loyce has arranged for us to photograph the Shiloh Baptist Church, inside and out. Beautiful German manufactured stained glass windows are one key feature in an example of great architecture.

Thank you Loyce for giving us the opportunity to photograph your church.

What a nice event! Thanks for making it possible, Loyce. Your church has a lot of history and character.

    March 23, 2014

Interesting photographers who found many things to capture - both inside and outside.

Great old church to photograph. Thanks to Loyce and Bob who set this up.

    March 23, 2014

  • Shawna S.

I got in at the last minute but already have plans so hopefully someone else will get the word go!

    March 23, 2014

  • Kevin W.

I hate to do this, but I am not feeling well, so I changed my RSVP to "no" to give someone else a chance to go.

    March 23, 2014

  • Loyce

Watch the list to see whether anyone can't come tomorrow. I am sure there will be another time. We like to have guest and photographer. We cut off at 20 so that people will not be all over each other.

    March 22, 2014

  • Ron J.

The church is in my neighborhood... So I hope I make the cut

Looks like we will have a sunny day for our shoot on Sunday. The church has been notified of our intended presence. You may park on either side of the church, however, the elevator is on the west side. The sanctuary is on the 1st floor.
If you should arrived before 1:30, you may enter quietly and join the service. You may shoot outside the building, look around in the HALL OF FAME, or visit the new wing.
I will be waiting for you! We must be out of the church by 4:00. Maybe you should bring electrical cords.
    Happy shooting.

Did you figure out your wireless flash? Do you want some help?

      March 18, 2014

  • Debbie K.

Something came up and I will not be able to attend this outing. Hopefully someone on the waitlist can join this excursion.

    March 10, 2014

  • Bob from D.

I have never used remote flash triggers other than my camera's built in system, but it seems similar. Perhaps one of the people attending can add some insight on third party triggers. I would guess that a wedding is tough if the couple do not want flash interrupting the service. What time of day is the wedding?

    March 10, 2014

    • Denny

Many wedding photographers "re-enact" the wedding. Particularly if the church/minister does not allow flash photography during the ceremony. So, after all of the celebrants have left the chapel the wedding party returns. Then the photographer shoots the re-enactment...the placing of the rings, the kisses, ring bearer, flower girl, etc etc etc. If and when they get around to celebrating their 25 wedding anniversary they probably won't even remember that the photos were staged.

      March 10, 2014

  • Loyce

After visiting the church, if anyone has tips for shooting a wedding on Sunday, April 27, please let me know. Come back to Shiloh if you'd like. It's a church affair so little pay. I have not shot a wedding at the church. A regular flash does little for distance scenes. I hardly know when to use flash or not and not good with manual setting.

    March 10, 2014

  • Loyce

If you are still looking for topics to discuss at the monthly meeting, I would like a demo of using the radio remote for the flash attachments.

    March 10, 2014

  • Bob from D.

If you are signed up, but can't make it on the 23rd, please change your RSVP so someone else can get in. Thanks!

    March 6, 2014

  • Debbie K.

The 23rd should work for me

    March 5, 2014

  • Kevin W.

If you are scheduled to attend or on the wait list, please make sure the 23rd works.

    March 4, 2014

I will be there. Thanks for the reschedule!

    I'm good for the 23rd.

23rd works for me. Good Lord willing and the snow don't come ... again.

    March 4, 2014

  • Loyce

Bob: The church is available on March 16. I will schedule us again if you say GO.

    March 3, 2014

    • Bob from D.

The 16th is our regular meeting at Hard Road, so that's out.

      March 4, 2014

  • Brenda G.

Thanks you two for all your work on arranging and rearranging this shoot. Can't wait to see the church!

    March 4, 2014

  • Scott

Will the monthly meeting be rescheduled?

    March 4, 2014

    • Bob from D.

The 16th is not the date for the church shoot it was merely a stop gap (ill chosen) to keep the RSVP list. Hopefully Loyce can get us a date that doesn't conflict with the meeting. Sorry for confusion.

Thanks to Loyce and Bob for working on this rescheduled shoot. March 16 is good for me. See you all there.

    March 4, 2014

  • Bob from D.

Oh well, I tried. Did they take pictures?

    March 2, 2014

  • Loyce

Someone did not check the website and showed up at the church at 1:30..

    March 2, 2014

  • Loyce

WISE! Sounds good! I need to check the church calendar. We are already approved.

    March 2, 2014

  • Bob from D.

I have changed the date to the 16th just to save the RSVP list. I request Loyce to please get us a new date at which point I will revise the meet up with the same attendee list.

    March 2, 2014

  • Bob from D.

Though the weather seems to be passing, I am not changing my position due to hazardous driving conditions.

    March 2, 2014

  • Loyce

What a disappointing decision to make. I have been checking the weather as well as Bob's notices. The weather just does not want to cooperate. See you next time when we re-schedule.

    March 2, 2014

  • Bob from D.

As of 9:30 AM, the situation is not good and so I will leave the status of the meetup as "postponed unless otherwise notified", and do not expect that to change. If a radical change occurs, I will revisit that decision later.

    March 2, 2014

  • Bob from D.

The weather forecast is not good for Sunday and Meetup has been going down frequently, so this meet up is now classified as "postponed" UNLESS on Sunday morning it is confirmed as taking place. I don't know how else to ensure that people don't drive miles in a snow storm only to find no one else there.

As much as I'd like to photograph this church - GOOD CALL BOB. Safety first. Thanks..

Denny, For sure! This whole winter fits that description.

THANKS BOB for your notification. Shiloh will be there for another date and time. No snowstorms for me either. I will check the website for directions and information. You are in charge. If possible, I will already be at church. Church phone is[masked]-7946. My cell is[masked]

For everyone on the Waitlist: Glad to know of your interest. I will see what we can do about scheduling another group of 15 when it is convenient with the Organizers. Saturday is a good option. I don't want to overstep my boundaries.

    February 25, 2014

    • Bob from D.

Let's do the first one and learn from it before we schedule the second one.

      February 25, 2014

  • Loyce

Shawna: I can do another group when it is convenient. Keep in touch.

I always get the emails too late, loyce if you can take a second group at another time that would be great my husband and I would really love to go!

Sounds very beautiful. I won't be able to travel to Columbus but would love to see pictures! Please post some!

    February 20, 2014

  • Loyce

Sure, bring your tripods. Enter the church from the west side near the freeway fence. The limit has been set to around 20 photographers so that we can move freely with equipment. The balcony gives an awesome view of the pulpit down below. Groups before have rented lighting equipment or brought their own.

    February 19, 2014

  • Denny

    Can we bring tripods? Thanks

    February 19, 2014

  • Randy R.

Bob - is there a limit on # of people allowed on this shoot? Concerned about long exposures and us getting in each others way. ;o) Just curious.

    February 19, 2014

  • Brenda G.

Loyce, your church sounds beautiful and very interesting. Thanks for getting permission for us to shoot!

    February 19, 2014

  • Bob from D.

Start planning now for outdoor architecture and gorgeous interior with tough lighting on everything but the windows which hopefully will be lit by bright skies. Long exposures and tripods are key for indoors.
