COUNT Discussion Meeting: Topic - "All in the Family"

COUNT focuses on volunteering and outreach. The projects that we take on are those that help the world around us and positively affect the lives and reputations of atheists and other non believers.

Every week we will meet to review those upcoming projects and then spend some time discussing a weekly topic that will help develop and support the local atheist/non-theist community, discuss secular viewpoints, encourage a positive atheist/non-theist culture, and provide opportunities for socializing and friendship.

This week, we will be discussing the family issues that people have had to bear since becoming a non-believer.  We all are in different “stages” of coming out to our family and friends. What have you had to endure (harsh comments, fear,, uneasiness, disownment, etc) from family and friends since coming to reason? How did you handle it? What advice can you give others who are still going through it or are totally in the closet about their non-belief?

If we have time, we’ll open up the floor to other topics. Afterwards, we are would love to spend time hanging out, having a few drinks, and getting to know one another.

Atheist, agnostics, other non-theists, and atheist-friendly people are welcome to join us.

Sorry I can't make it, but would like to recommend the book "Faith No More"--nonbelievers were interviewed about their lives, including the "coming out" as nonbelievers to their families. Good book!
