Bay Area Maker Faire ROADTRIP!

Yes...it's a bit early to start planning...or is it?

I have spoken with at least 10 members of the Central Oregon Makers who are interested in doing a roadtrip to the Bay Area Maker Faire. Shared travel and accommodations, or any combination of them are certainly going to happen.

NOTE: Some of the members of the High Desert Makers will be participating with vendors and exhibitors at the Faire.

    Do you:

    * Like robots?
    * Like doing outreach?
    * Want to trade some time doing robot outreach for a Maker Faire Bay Area ticket? Tickets?

    If these apply to you, contact me directly and I will share the details and coordinate your outreach.

    Just bought my ticket (weekend pass). I am wondering though: if the Maker Faire is Saturday and Sunday, why leave Thursday?

    There are typically some barter/volunteer relationships that can get you in for free as well. Even the exhibitors that I work with pay for a significant number of passes, so it's not "free" for them. If you want some more information, please email or call me directly.

    SPECIAL NOTE: High Desert Makers will not be an exhibitor at Bay Area Maker Faire, but many of our members will be participating with other exhibiting and attending makers.

    Hi All...

    Just a quick heads-up. The whole point of this thread was to get people thinking and planning. I suspect there will be a number of people heading down and back on different days. I'm not locked into my schedule yet and I typically emcee an on-site robotics competition or help with TechShop. We're not sure what either are doing this year...and might not know until early April.

    Someone once told me that Maker Faire is 'like Burning Man with your clothes on'. Now it's not that extreme, but keep in mind that many of the Makers would be happy to work with you and make arrangements. I'll be couch-surfing at my dad's house in SF, and there may (may) be additional space available for others. I know LOTS of locals make friends and hang out partying.

    NOTE: The Amtrak train rolls from OR in to the East Bay in the morning. There are ALWAYS people willing to bring you to the Faire. Departure is evening. Fares are cheap if you book ahead.

    Has anyone in this group participated as a maker in faire? I'd love some insight on the experience. Will trade beer or coffee for first-person details.

      I'm wondering about running a booth. I'm wondering if it would worth the $ and effort to for my husband who makes kinetic sculptures: http://chriscoledesig...

      I sent Chris a message with some more information about participating as a "vendor" or "Maker" at a Maker Faire. Happy to help.

      Bay Area Maker Faire is its own unique beast, but all the other faires are setup with specific guidelines on the mix of commercial Makers.

    Also everyone who wants to go should buy their ticket ASAP because tickets for these things have a way of selling out really quickly once they go on sale. Do we get a discounted ticket price for being COM members? If not the tickets are on sale here: http://goo.gl/IFaUiY

    Man I'd love to go to the Makers Faire road-trip style. Anyone know someone with a bus? I used to be a bus driver. Also, we should make arrangements at a hotel in the area as soon as possible because Maker Faires are insanely popular.

    Scott,

    Thanks for getting the ball rolling on this one. I'll be announcing it to my COCC students as well.
