Third Saturday Board Games - Civilization: The Expansion Project

Like the Avalon Hill Civilization board game, the Expansion Project covers the development of ancient civilizations from the invention of agriculture c. 8000 B.C. to the emergence of Rome around the middle of the third century B.C. However, rather than leading a nation of peoples over a mapboard of the Eastern Mediterranean and Near East, now the map stretches north to the British isles, west to Spain, and east to India! We've played with 7 to 12 players, and our goal is to reach a full game of 18!

Please plan on playing until midnight or later, or have someone lined up who can fill in for you if you plan to leave earlier. (If you want to volunteer to be a replacement, RSVP 'No', and say that you can be a replacement so that interested players can contact you.) There will be breaks for lunch and dinner, with several dining establishments in the area. Also, the game will begin by 11 am. If you have never played Civilization: The Expansion Project, you must arrive by 10 am, so that the rules may be explained. Note: If there are 8 or fewer players at 11am, we will an alternate game.

This is a shared event with the Austin Geeks and Gamers group.  It is not necessary to RSVP in both groups.

How many people are expected for tomorrow? I would probably show up if there is an alternate game as I can only make a 6-8 hour commitment.

Looks like 5-6, and if so, we would switch to another game. Perhaps Kingmaker or the new CIV

Alas, I will have to miss this Saturday's game. With tear-filled eyes, that very day I must away to the Netrunner regional tournament. I hope to join you all again for next month's adventure.

Do you guys have any of the player aids that help speed the game up?
There is one in particular that is used at WBC every year for Ad. Civ. that I find mandatory. Here's a BGG link to a photocopy file: http://boardgamegeek.com/filepage/62634/corrected-advanced-civ-score-card
I don't know if that will work for the expansion project.

How much longer than a normal game of A.C. is the expansion project? You say 2AM... is that realistic? That might be too long of a time commitment for me.

If you're unsure of the time commitment, please stop by during the afternoon to see the game in progress, so that you can decide if you want to join us for a future game.

Also, the final scoring process is greatly simplified in the expansion project. The basic priority order is still the same (techs > AST > everything else), but counting up the final tally is much faster.
