First Friday is almost here! I hope some of you are almost as excited as I am to be playing games with new and old friends.
You are getting this even if you RSVP'd NO this time because I touch on more than Friday night. Thanks for being a part of the group. If you reply ,everyone signed up to the mailing list (about half of us) will get your replies. That's great if that's what you want--just giving you a heads-up if you wanted your reply to go only to me.
I'm looking forward to meeting all the new people Friday night. Bring your scary games if you want because it's October. Bring a scary friend if you want. :-) Remember that it's exit 261 you get off on 35 North. Lot's of people have gotten off on University Drive in Round Rock and gone west. Keep headed up to Georgetown; it's just a little farther. Call my cell phone if you get lost at (512) 796-1583.
Childcare Paragraph--skip if you have no kids.
We only have one person besides my own kids in childcare as far as I can tell and that's little Maddie. Gina will pay the $5 per child for the kids tonight. If we have late notices tomorrow I can run up and pay them but Wednesday is definitely the deadline for childcare. I've ALWAYS would up donating extra to the church because people have said they are bringing a child and then didn't. I don't mind the extra donations so much but try to come and bring a child if you say that is what you are doing. One of the big reasons for doing first Fridays is so we can take advantage of childcare.
Would you like to host boardgames?
I've tried for over a year now to encourage others to host some boardgame meetups too. It really hasn't worked because people are reluctant to open up their homes to gamers they don't know or they mostly play at game stores like Dragon's Lair Mondays, Thor's Hammer Wednesdays, or Great Hall on the Fridays we don't meet at the church. I've heard they have been standing room only at that Austin store on Friday nights lately. I have heard of several people who have met other gamers through the groups and had game nights with them. That's awesome! That's one of the things the meetup is for. If you do want to host and you've been to one of our meetups so you know what they are like, let me know and we'll set it up.
Sunday Tichu blurb.
The summer Tichu and Texmex series is still going into the fall. We did get a little burned out on the TexMex and are going to be going to other types of restaurants for a month or so. I did move the notices for this Sunday night card night to a tool called Renkoo. If you want to be on the list to play Tichu Sunday nights, sign up Friday night or let me know via email. Don't know what Tichu is? Check out http://boardgamegeek.com
and look it up. I know it's a pain to sign up for yet another free service for the card games but it has the advantage that when someone RSVPs I get notified through text messages in my phone since I'm often out Sunday afternoon playing disc golf. I didn't want to post separate meetups for Sunday Tichu because everyone would get notices and reminders and it's usually only 4 to 8 who show up.
Word game blurb.
Maybe it's because Betty brought a Scrabble game to Dragon's Lair last night, but I'd like to play just word games some night. I haven't played Scrabble in forever and I also love games like Parlay (a combination of poker and Scrabble), Crossword Pyramids, Typo, Palabra, Boggle, My Word, and others. I can't be the only one who wants to play word games ,can I? Let me know if you would be interested in a word games night and we'll set something up.
