Each of us will choose a recipe from her website or from her cooking shows to prepare and bring to the potluck. Sounds like fun! Kate's done this before with a meetup and I've had good reports about it. When you choose the recipe you're going to prepare, please put it on your RSVP so we won't all end up making the same thing! To quote Bev: "Garcia's is a bit of a hole in the wall frequented by local firefighters, city employees, and a long list of regulars who are in on the secret, in what was once a tiny old Round Rock wood frame family home with makeshift booths and tables. Nothing fancy about the decor, but the food is great Tex-Mex, and you'll be treated like you're a guest in someone's home." Sounds great! Sep 26 6:00 PM	Bring Your Signature Dish! 9 attended (est.) – 4.503 Due to the poll results, this potluck is being moved from this coming Saturday, September 5, at 6:00 p.m., to Saturday, September 26, at 6:00 p.m. Those of you who have already RSVP'd yes and wish to attend on the new date, need do nothing. Those of you who have RSVP'd yes for the event and do not wish to attend on the new date, please let me know and I'll refund your RSVP funds. Most of us have a dish that is our "signature dish" - the reliable dish that we always bring when asked to bring food to an event. We thought it would be fun to have a potluck made up of such dishes. Doesn't matter if it's a main dish, a salad, a veggie, a soup, if it's something you cook, or something you purchase - whatever it is, bring it for us all to savor and we'll make a meal of it! As usual, bring your favorite beverage that goes with it if you wish. We'll be meeting at Helen's, just east of Round Rock. (Yes, the address is Hutto, but don't let that fool you!) Sep 19 10:00 AM	4th Annual Austin Chocolate Festival 36 attended (est.) – 3.502 This year, the Austin Chocolate Festival, benefiting Susan G. Komen For the Cure , normally held in March, will be in September. Time and place have not been posted, but I'm going ahead and reserving the date for the Food-Centrics to attend en masse. Last year, I actually managed to be chocolated out, something I hadn't thought was possible. Fortunately, there was a "doggie box" provided in which to carry home any chocolates you couldn't consume on the spot. Aug 26 7:00 PM	Going Home to Mother's (Cafe & Garden) 2 attended (est.) – 4.001 Jill, our hostess, has an opportunity to go to India at the same time that this meetup was scheduled, so we are rescheduling it to August 26. If you RSVP'd "Yes" and the new date will not work for you, please let me know so that I can refund your RSVP fee. Central Texas Foodies member Jill Shah has volunteered to hostess a meetup at Mother's Cafe & Garden, a well-known local vegetarian restaurant and Austin landmark. For those of you who are vegetarians, this should be a welcome change from our regular gatherings, with a wider selection than usual. Aug 5 11:00 AM	"Need No Teef To Eat My Beef" - Could Only Be House Park BBQ No rating yet House Park BBQ can honestly claim to be an Austin Tradition, since it's been around since 1943; it seemed a fitting place to start the Central Texas Foodies BBQ Trail Ride. (Yes, I know I've been talking about it forever, but now I'm finally going to do it - occasional forays to various BBQ joints around Central Texas.) Here's what the fine folks at Yelp have to say about House Park. Since they're only open for lunch weekdays, that's when we'll be going. Since they are a small place, there will be a limited number of openings. Since they don't take anything but cash, bring some! Expect to go home, or back to work, smelling of pit smoke. Jun 11 6:30 PM	Off to Brazil! 9 attended (est.) – 4.502 After heading north and south, we're going to try something central this time, and a little bit different - Brazilian cuisine! I'm waiting to try the Feijoada, or perhaps the Camarao da Vo Naica (mentioned often in glowing reviews) or the Bobo de Camarao (which they say is a Best of Austin winner).
