I learned to cook from my dad, and got most of my love of food from him. He taught me to be adventurous when it comes to trying new things, and though that doesn't always work out (like the time we deep fried a turkey outside in the pouring rain), it's worth it to try.
Right now, it's probably Tomo Sushi. The fish is always fresh, it's not far from my house, and I've always been treated well there. Of all time would probably be Joel Robuchon in Vegas, but it's typically a wee bit out of my price range and a touch further than I'd like to drive.
The Fannie Farmer cookbook. I think it's even behind me in my profile picture. Wide variety of recipes as well as clear instructions have made it my go-to many times over.
I can only have one? Mexican, if I were forced to pick.
