Who would like to do a Night Shoot in Columbia?

I did this once before but had a lot of restrictions placed on me. Since then I found that all that was unnecessary and want to do it again without the restrictions.

If you've never done a shoot at night with ambient light, this is an opportunity you don't want to pass up. Lots of ISO playing and WB adjustments is the key. BW conversions with the grain take on a old style appearance. This is a lot of fun and educational.

We would meet in Oakdale at about 6pm and car pool or caravan up there. It's about a 50 minute drive. I may be able to arrange for a model or two but we could always get in the pics ourselves.

The purpose would be to give us all an opportunity to shoot with low incandescent lights and use a flash fill.

Afterwards we can head over to Perko's for coffee and a piece of pie.

Thanks everyone for making this event so enjoyable. And for putting up with my lack of photographic knowledge. Still learning....

I had a lot of fun and I hope everyone else did as well. If you were shooting Alanya, please forward a couple of your best shots to me so I can get them to her. Please make them 6X9 @ 90dpi so she can post them easily on her social network. If you post them here I'll make certain that she gets them

Thank you everyone. Let's do it again soon.

We meet in the KMart parking lot next to Burger King. I have no idea what is wrong with the map.

I will only have one young lady as a model. Also, please note that the time has changed and we will be leaving Burger King at 5pm. Hope to see you all there, if not, please meet us up there. It's gonna be fun and informative.

Since this will actually be "in the dark shooting" I would recommend a faster lens.
Also learning how to change the ISO on your camera in the dark.
Learning how to "play" your camera without looking at it.
Tripod, important for the slow shutter speeds
. Even though we are using ambient light, bring your flash, but before you do, learn how to reduce the power to the flash so you can add just enough to highlight the eyes and to add the sparkle that is needed in the eyes. Plus to remove dark shadows under the eyes, or a hat or some very high hair.
Since we know it will be cold, carry your spare batteries next to your body to keep them warm.
Last, but very important, bring some plastic bags to put your equipment in after we are done so the condensation will not form on or in your camera.

I am not a professional photographer,
I just happen to stay at a
    Motel 8 last night.

Thank you Tony for your advice. The lighting suggestions are sound and can make a real difference in the final images. It's important to remember that this will be a lot of people shooting "together" and we'll have to take that into consideration when using our flash.

Sorry, hit the wrong key. I am less than an expert but I would never consider putting my equipment in a plastic bag unless it would be to protect it from rain or other environmental hazard. When I do this, I make certain the equipment can "breathe". Moisture will build up and can damage the components, especially the electronics. But that's just my opinion... and opinions are like noses, we all have one and some are goofy. :)

Just to let you know, I'll likely have two female models to shoot with us.

    ********* UPDATE ********

I failed to take into consideration the time change. I'd really like to get up there before it is totally dark. Soooooo..... I'll need to leave out of Oakdale by 5ish. That will put us there and shooting by 6pm.

If you can make it with that group that would be great. If you need to come later, the lights in Columbia will be burning brightly all night. If you come up after 5, we'll be easy to find. If you need directions, let me know and I'll help you out. Sorry for the inconvenience.

I am looking forward to meeting everyone and sharing the educational experience. This will be an awesome opportunity to learn that which is unknown to me (night photography). Please don't let me be shy, because sometimes my insecurities will be exposing themselves when I am not being my natural self, an extrovert.

I'm on a 50/50 chance for this, it all depends how my hip is acting at the time.
But most likely will go, need to get out of this house and do some more pix.
