AngularJS - Key Differentiating Concepts

Very excited to discuss AngularJS with everyone here! There are 2 ways I can do this:

1) Live interactive tutorial (i.e. bring your laptop to join the fun)

2) Presentation/tutorial without the 'follow along'

Let me know in the comments if you have a preference!

A deck that I used for an earlier presentation is here: https://speakerdeck.com/callseng/angularjs-introduction

I think I'll likely cover the same topics even though Angular recently added animations - this amount of content easily consumes the time available.

If we do the interactive tutorial, you can see exactly what we'd be doing here: https://github.com/callseng/angular_v_jquery_1

Also - I'm developing a "second screen" application (PitRho.tv) built on top of Angular, which I will demo for everyone and hopefully give some real-world justification of the awesomeness of the concepts we'll cover.

Thank you all for coming and for the great questions! Feel free to reach out any time if I can be helpful - @gcallsen - and if you'd like the simple jquery vs angular demo we went through - find it here: https://github.com/callseng/angular_v_jquery_1

What's the best place to park? Is there a lot or deck associated with the building?

    July 17, 2013

    • Jon D.

The best place to park would be street parking either on Garret, 2nd St, or Monticello Ave

Thanks to everyone who offered/assisted with the pizza and drinks -- we are all set. Contributions will be happily accepted.

For this meetup we'll have a projector+screen to increase the size of the presentation display (If you were at the last meetup, it was hard to see the TV).

Before the August meetup we'll have a CV.js business meeting for anyone who is interested in helping to keep the group running smoothly. Hope to see everyone tonight! Don't forget to arrive a bit early to find a parking spot.

Hey all. I'm really looking forward to Gilman's presentation, and I'm sure it'll satisfy our hunger for knowledge. Unfortunately, we still don't have a food sponsor :-( Any last-minute leads for local company's willing to sponsor would be greatly appreciated! If none come our way, would anyone be willing to pitch in a few dollars for some small snacks, drinks, and possibly a few pizzas? See you tomorrow,
    John

I'll plan to pick up 4 large pizzas from Christian's beforehand, and then get reimbursed later. Based on past meetups, that should probably be enough.

Hey John-- no need. I just placed an order at Papa Johns and will pick it up at 6:15. Found a 50% off coupon :)

Really disappointed I can't make this one : ( Anyone want to record a video of it?

I completely understand the old laptop issues :) I suggest anyone who does have a laptop and would like to follow along goes and grabs the repo in the description above (in case there's no internet). If no laptop/no interest in following along - no problem. I think this will be an easy topic for a hybrid presentation.

Owen - I will cover TDD in Angular. That said, TDD is not a strength of mine so if anyone in attendance knows more about best practices as it relates to Angular I would absolutely love for you to speak up during the presentation!

+1 for an interactive tutorial (#1). Here's a good video to get acquainted with the basics of AngularJS:

I'd prefer 1 but can see the difficulty with it, as I suspect Thad isn't the only person with his concern. Would it be possible to go with 2 for this meetup and allow interested parties to meet sometime later for an approach more like 1?

I have been looking for a good TDD workflow for Angular. There is plenty on how testable Angular is but not much on the subject of applying TDD to Angular. Maybe that is something you can cover?

I've been working with GWT for 7 years. I'm interested in AngularJS's approach.

As for which type of discussion, my current laptop is an old and clunky Dell, so I'd prefer #2.

Looking forward to exploring some Angular with everyone soon! If you have a preference, please let me know which of the two presentation styles you'd prefer per the description above.

What I've seen of angular js looks awesome! I'm really looking forward to this!

I've heard good things about Angular. I'd be interested in hearing more.
