Keep those New Years' Resolutions to be more active by going orienteering! Bring someone to orienteer with or head out on your own!
See course details below.
Starts: Start any time between 11:00 am and 1:00 pm. (Everybody must be back to the start no later than 3:00 pm.) Feel free to arrive any time after 10:45 am.
Location: Brown & Williamson Conservation Area at 1 Discovery Dr. Hopewell, VA.
Cost: Maps are $5 each.
*** Note - There are no restrooms available at the start, so please plan accordingly. ***
As always, instruction will be available for beginners or those who would like some help to get started. We can also offer some tips to those who've been out a few times and want to advance their skills a bit.
Bring your own compass, or borrow one of ours (on a first-come basis). Be prepared to leave car keys or an ID as a deposit when borrowing.
Dress appropriately for the weather and for travel both on & off trail.
Feel free to post comments or contact one of the organizers if you have any questions.
Be sure to answer the instruction and map questions when you RSVP! This really helps us with planning.
*** Our meets wouldn't be possible without the help of volunteers. Please consider offering some of your time at this or another upcoming meet. ***
White (beginner/first time) - This will be a traditional orienteering course which is to be completed in the numerical order indicated on the map.
Score-O - A Score-O is a course with all control locations shown on the map where you try to find as many as you can within the time limit, in any order that you feel is the best route. Be sure to understand the scoring method before heading out on the course!
You'll have 90 minutes to complete your course and get back to the start/finish. Each control you find is worth 10 points, but you'll lose 5 points for every 2 minutes (or portion) that you go over the 90-minute limit, so be sure to have some way to track your time while you're out there. There will be enough control locations that most people won't find them all in the allotted time!
