June's book selection is: The Feast Nearby: How I Lost a Job, Buried a Marriage, and Found My Way by Keeping Chickens, Foraging, Preserving, Bartering, and Eating Locally (All On $40 a Week) by Robin Mather. Please read the book ahead of time and bring any questions or comments that may have arisen while reading. I (Leah) will be leading/moderating the discussion, but I plan on it being very casual. Let's have fun!
The location for this event is Highbanks Metropark. Please meet us at the Oak Coves Picnic Area. To get there, use the main entrance on Columbus Pike Rd. (Route 23) and take the first left after entering (there should be a sign with an arrow directing you to Oak Coves). We will plan on meeting in the first parking lot, which will be on your right. From there, we can take a short walk to a suitable picnic area.
Flipping through the book, I see there are many delicious-looking recipes included! I am planning on making and bringing one of them to share. I will comment here when I've decided which one! If you decide to do the same, please comment with what you will be bringing so we can avoid duplicates.
How do I find a copy of the book?
Copies of the book may be procured through your local library (If your library doesn't have a copy, keep in mind that some libraries participate in sharing programs that reach outside of their system. Ask at your library for details!). If you cannot locate a copy at the library, post here to see if anyone has an extra copy they are willing to lend you for the month. If all else fails, I recommend www.bookfinder.com to search for a cheap used copy you can purchase on the internet. You may also try Half Price Books or another local bookseller.
Our book discussions are held on the second Saturday of each month in various locations. We choose which books to read through a poll on our meetup page (find polls under the "More" tab). If you have location or book suggestions, please contact Leah!
