The Central Oregon Atheists Pages

The Central Oregon Atheists is a social group that was created to bring together atheists, agnostics, and freethinkers in Central Oregon. Come out for some great ungodly conversation! Enjoy good company as we socialize, rant against religion, tell our deconversion stories, and concoct devilish atheist plans to take over the world!

If you believe in gods or other superstitions, you are certainly welcome to join us too; but remember that "extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence" (Carl Sagan). Any claims to be taken seriously in this group require PEARL (Physical Evidence And Reasoned Logic).

"Atheism may be defined as the mental attitude which unreservedly accepts the supremacy of reason and aims at establishing a life-style and ethical outlook verifiable by experience and scientific method, independent of all arbitrary assumptions of authority and creeds." - American Atheists Inc.

"I contend that we are both atheists. I just believe in one fewer god than you do. When you understand why you dismiss all the other possible gods, you will understand why I dismiss yours." - Stephen Roberts

"Religions are all alike - founded upon fables and mythologies." - Thomas Jefferson

"The divinity of Jesus is made a convenient cover for absurdity." - John Adams

"Lighthouses are more helpful than churches." - Benjamin Franklin

"Faith is believing something you know ain't true." - Mark Twain

"Philosophy is questions that may never be answered. Religion is answers that may never be questioned." – unknown

We can come together in this forum by:

  • Learning about the various facets of atheism.
  • Identifying the impacts of super-naturalists on institutions within our community.
  • Developing a plan of action to promote the separation of religion from our government, if appropriate.
  • Discuss how to improve acceptance of those who don't believe in the supernatural.

One major effort to forward these objectives are expressed by the OUT campaign ( Richard Dawkins on the OUT Campaign).
