Shelburne Bay

Shelburne Bay, F&W Access

Week night paddle protocol Launch time 6:00pm
The CKC sponsors weekly informal paddles open to all members or future members regardless of skill level. We request that all paddlers arrive on time, dressed appropriately for water temperature and with all required gear, ready to launch at 6:00 pm. There are no formal trip leaders but we do recommend that the group discuss the trip expectations prior to launch to ensure that everyone is on board with a trip plan. Please give yourself 20-30 minutes to get ready to go.

Required equipment: Pfd's, kayak, paddle, head lamp, kayak flotation (bulk heads or floats), spray skirts (conditions may change, questions please ask)
Recommended equipment: pump, drinking water, snacks, sun screen, hat, and extra clothing

Please post to the forum that you are coming. Some people do not drive up for the paddle if no one posts that they are going paddling. PLEASE LET EVERYONE KNOW THAT YOU ARE PADDLING.

It would be great if someone would post after the paddle on how many people made it to paddle that night.

You can locate launch locations by going to our Goggle map the link is located on the left-hand side of the Meet-Up page. Look for the Google Icon.

Beautiful, even with all the rain. It was light and then gone for some time. The lake was flat and with little wind. We went though fog, which was exciting, besides seeing a lost moose.

Very nice paddle up the LaPlatte River. There was wildlife around every corner. Slow pace and great conversation with Anne, Donna and Don. A few rolls and self-rescue practice at the end. Water is warming up nicely but a wetsuit is still recommended in the lake, with water temps just over 50.

Great time although I did get chilled to the bone. I guess I need that skirt after all!! Sights and sounds of wildlife was just so special. And making new friends paddling the river w/ Cathy, Don and Donna just as special.

The meetup split into 2 groups. One went to Shelburne Pt, and 4 of us went up the river. The river group saw everything but moose and mice.
The river is warm enough that there's no need to dress for immersion. Lake is up to 50, which is still pretty cold.

Great paddle on the Bay. Storms went through, and we had a flat paddle. Seven people went out to the point, about 6 miles round trip. Four went up the river. The season is starting out great. Let's keep it going.

I am going to miss this event. The weather looked too unpleasant, even though its better now.

Who is still going if there is light rain and wind (1-2 ft waves)? I'll show up if others are committed to going out, but don't want to drive all the way there and find out no one is going out.

I'm coming unless there's a dramatic change between now and 5:30. Kayak already on car.

The weather prediction looks iffy. What is the protocol for canceling due to weather??

Hi Donna, just change your RSVP to no to cancel

If we go up river then there won't be waves. Even in the lake, south wind in a north facing bay the waves will be smaller than in the broad lake.

    I'm definetly going too...

I would like to end this Paddle trip to Shelburn Bay F & W with a Pizza Party and have a Kayak planning meeting. We need people to organize trips, mainly on the weekends for the coming season.
    Thanks

I agree w/ Sherry. I'd really love to attend a paddle planning meeting and become more involved. However, I have to work tomorrow and know I'm going to want to go straight home after the paddle tonight. Regardless, great idea, Ed!

Still, doesn't have to be a "planning meeting" to air ideas. Any trip qualifies.
