Keeler Bay

Week night paddle protocol Launch time 6:00pm
The CKC sponsors weekly informal paddles open to all members or future members regardless of skill level. We request that all paddlers arrive on time, dressed appropriately for water temperature and with all required gear, ready to launch at 6:00 pm. There are no formal trip leaders but we do recommend that the group discuss the trip expectations prior to launch to ensure that everyone is on board with a trip plan. Please give yourself 20-30 minutes to get ready to go.

Required equipment: Pfd's, kayak, paddle, head lamp, kayak flotation (bulk heads or floats), spray skirts (conditions may change, questions please ask)
Recommended equipment: pump, drinking water, snacks, sun screen, hat, and extra clothing

Please post to the forum that you are coming. Some people do not drive up for the paddle if no one posts that they are going paddling. PLEASE LET EVERYONE KNOW THAT YOU ARE PADDLING.

It would be great if someone would post after the paddle on how many people made it to paddle that night.

You can locate launch locations by going to our Goggle map the link is located on the left-hand side of the Meet-Up page. Look for the Google Icon.

only 4 showed up, 3 of us decided to go over to White's Beach looking for some larger waves. We found lots of them! The wind was howling (20+ for sure), plenty of 3 footers to surf. Got to participate in a rough water rescue; capsized surfing and rolled right up! Had several nice rides on the waves. Evening was cut short due to some minor bumps and bruises. Was lots of fun while it lasted. Thanks Don and Neil!

Pictures are great!! Looks like a trip I would do after several skills sessions and in the warmer weather!! Or I get a dry suit!!

Since we didn't go anywhere, it is a good place to try rough water in a south wind. IF you lose your boat or paddle, everything blows in to the beach not far from where we launch.

Kudos to Neil McCabe for pushing his comfort zone and trying some bigger waters! He did really good job for a first go at stuff that size. "If you're not capsizing....you're not pushing it"

Great pics Cathy. Would have joined, but had just returned from an all day mc ride. Don stopped by for a beer and debrief after. Some time you should launch with us at our beach, just up around the corner from White's. From there we work our way upwind using protection from the land. When we get about halfway up the old RR fill, we ferry out and surf it back. Best swell on the lake!

We had no destination this trip; just paddling out a ways and surfing back. The waves were easy to catch. It's always good to get some rolling and rescue "in conditions."
The rain ended before 6 and we got a little sun before it was over.
You could really feel the push of the wind just carrying paddles back to the car so it was nice to have 2 people on a boat to put them back on the roof racks.

Backing out. Worried too much about wind and rain. See you next week.

I'll blame my bad French spelling on a tablet that tries to complete words in English. Yeah, that's it.

if that weather forecast turns out to be accurate, is anyone interested in going to White's Beach for some play in the rougher water?

Radar indicates the rain will be done before 6:00

1-2 feet the skinboat would do well, but I have the Gulfstream on the car.

Keep and eye on the Lake Forecast today. The bay won't be as bad as the broad lake, but will still have some waves.
