Mallett's Bay

Week night paddle protocol Launch time 6:00pm

We will have a representative of the US Coast Guard Auxiliary, Nancy Blanchard, FC. At the launch site. She will have identification sticks to hand out and is willing to do Vessel Safety Check for those who wish to have one. Get there early for check. I have posted the Check list for the VSC in our file section. Section III on the form is a must have on your body or paddle craft.

The CKC sponsors weekly informal paddles open to all members or future members regardless of skill level. We request that all paddlers arrive on time, dressed appropriately for water temperature and with all required gear, ready to launch at 6:00 pm. There are no formal trip leaders but we do recommend that the group discuss the trip expectations prior to launch to ensure that everyone is on board with a trip plan. Please give yourself 20-30 minutes to get ready to go.

Required equipment: Pfd's, kayak, paddle, head lamp, kayak flotation (bulk heads or floats), spray skirts (conditions may change, questions please ask)
Recommended equipment: pump, drinking water, snacks, sun screen, hat, and extra clothing

Please post to the forum that you are coming. Some people do not drive up for the paddle if no one posts that they are going paddling. PLEASE LET EVERYONE KNOW THAT YOU ARE PADDLING.

It would be great if someone would post after the paddle on how many people made it to paddle that night.

You can locate launch locations by going to our Goggle map the link is located on the left-hand side of the Meet-Up page. Look for the Google Icon.

The weather forecast changed for the better. 6 of us paddled around the bay. 4 of us stopped at Rozzies for a burger and beer.

Second week in a row that any sensible person hearing the weather report would have skipped, but no rain and at least half sun both times. Looking at local radar right before trip time seems the key in this season.
We had a chance to ride some gentle wind, and see/hear the peregrines.

I'm glad you had a good paddle. I had a lot of loose ends, so it was just as well for me to wait until all systems were good to go. Hope to join you all soon.

Nice southerly wind. 6 sea kayakers with similar abilities made this a fun paddle.xx

I'm not thinking I'd like to travel so far with such an iffy weather forecast. Sorry to miss CG's presentation.

3:18 p.m. - future radar shows a rain/possible t-storm developing over Burlington-Mallets Bay area around 5:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. After that, skies will be overcast and no rain predicted until after 9:00 p.m. So there may be a window to paddle.

Will we be informed if this trip gets canceled due to weather?

    • rob

Some people will cancel here on meet up. Others will Just go and see what there is for weather. By 6:00pm there may be no storms here in the bay just a little rain. Last week 4 people went down to Converse Bay and paddled in Sun shine while Burlington got hammered.

Last week's paddle was worth taking a chance. Lynda's got more of a drive than most of us.. can you check animated radar before you leave? (that tells you what direction outbreaks are headed)

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
