Winooski-RR cut-Stave Island

Meet at the F&W access on the Winooski - 10am. Bring lunch and drinks. This route follows the bike path/railroad causeway to the cut. We might attempt to round Stave Island and return which requires an open water crossing of 1+ miles and could require paddling in wind and rough water. Paddlers should have a minimum 14' - 2 bulkhead kayak. Moderate pace. Total trip is 13-15 miles

This was a great trip with lots of variety. The railroad/bike path causeway, Law, Sunset and Stave Islands with interesting cliffs. The day started cool with a little breeze from the north and ended with a push home. 13.5 miles total. This trip has potential to be a bit bumpy as there are reflecting waves off the island cliffs that can be tricky in big waves or boat wakes especially between Stave and Providence Islands.

I worked with a man who paddled the route twice a day all summer on his commute. But I don't think many paddle this area - I haven't.

Looks like an interesting route. Please post comments on how it went because I'd like to try the route later this summer.
