Larrabee's Point, (Ticonderoga), Fort Independence - East Creek WMA

Launch at Larrabee's Point, Hanson Rd in Shoreham. Explore cable Ferry and then along NY shore in front of Fort Ticonderoga and then cross over in front of Fort Independence and then enter East Creek and the wildlife management area of the East Creek. Total trip should be about 10 miles. Bring a lunch to eat along the way.  We can stop at Fort Independence and hike some of the Fort area along the lake.  This paddle is open to all kayakers with PFD, sunscreen, etc.   Should return be 5pm.  This is on the lower part of Lake Champlain so be prepared for being there.

Good trip. Glad I changed my mind and drove down. Weather guessers were wrong, the rain never came. Hopefully Alan made it home without a flat tire! It's a nice place to paddle, but might be better in the spring before the weeds grow. They were everywhere!

Yes, Alan made it home without a flat tire--then went swing dancing in Middlebury.

checked cable ferry, Ray and I walked up to Fort Ti. We ate lunch on the Fort Independence side.
Then we paddled up East Creek. I did 4 roll ups.

What does your comment, "this is lower Lake Champlain so be prepared for being there" mean? I don't know if that part of Lake Champlain comes with some sort of special information????

So it wasn't about the recent Champ attacks down there?

I'm going to put myself in the "maybe" catergory for this for Sunday. Too far to drive if its going to be thunderstorms are highly probable throughout the day, which is the forecast as of now. I'll watch the weather.

I'm going to bail on this. I've been hit with a nasty bug that has sucked all the energy out of my body. I'm going to take it easy at home instead. Looking forward to another outing with this group soon.

Ed, you need to take a closer look at this plan. The LaChute River from Ticonderoga to Lake Champlain (3.5 mile stretch) is rated a Class II - Class V+ by American Whitewater. It's not possible to paddle a sea kayak all the way up from Lake Champlain to the town of Ticonderoga.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
