Now that I have passed my preliminary candidacy exams, I am looking for new ways to connect to like-minded people in the Triangle. Finding nonfiction enthusiasts has been more difficult than I had anticipated(!), so I was excited to see that this book group had formed since I last visited meetup.com. I am a distance runner, so if you don't see me at book club discussion, you may see me on the road or trails.
Malcolm Gladwell, Brian Greene, Carl Sagan, Michael Pollan, Jon Krakauer, Douglas R. Hofstadter, Susan Cain, David Sedaris, Augusten Burroughs
I am excited to have the opportunity to pick up and read nonfiction that I otherwise may not have considered.
I am a doctoral student at UNC studying theoretical and computational chemistry. I relocated from Massachusetts for my graduate work, and I have lived in Carrboro since 2011.
I'm really happy to have found a group of readers and writers to sit down with to discuss nonfiction. I look forward to the meetings each month. The meetings are well facilitated, and the variety of topics has been a great way to read pieces I may not have otherwise picked up to read.
