A little introduction

Hallo zusammen!

I will be honest here... there are two reasons why I am writing in English to you.  One is that I really need to work on my German... the other, is for everyone else who needs to work on their German :) or is in this group in order to learn a little (or a lot of) German.

My name is Stephen Sovenyhazy and I have know Debby for several years now.  We work together at CORE Languages, a local Charleston SC language services company.  Both she and I are really into language and culture, so you could say that we really love what we do.  Debby teachers both English and German for CORE and I help coordinate weekly activities with our excellent team.

Well, I have gone to a few get togethers with The Charleston German Language Meetup Group.  In fact, I helped organize the Accent on Wine meeting in Summerville... what was that... 2011, yet that was only 3 meetings ago???  Well, I want to get back in it again, because I know we want to be even more active and have tons more discussions, meet ups and more.  We have people in this group who are NATIVES and those who speak NO German...  So that means we need events and activities that are interesting on all levels.

Debby and I put our heads together on this one, because she is so passionate about German (language and culture), yet life gets in the way... and that is ok.  We both needed a change that would help get the ball rolling again... One that would allow both she and I to manage activities on a regular basis... After looking at other groups, the main difference that I noticed is that the other language groups in Charleston have a regular meeting place.  We needed one and so I have a solution.  The Charleston Language Center.  Here is their website www.thecharlestonlanguagecenter.com

The language center is located in Mount Pleasant, SC and fortunately it is located right next to a great wine shop!!!  More on them later!  The language center will sponsor our space (at no cost to us) and I will check in with the Wine shop to see how our group can work with them on a regular basis...  Please keep me in your thoughts as I struggle through negotiations with this wonderful wine shop... Unfortunately I think I will HAVE TO sit through several wine tastings before we come to any conclusion... :)

Well, if you made it through this much of my e-mail, then thank you... I will end by asking everyone who is interested in continuing with this group to write something... anything in reply to this e-mail... and even better, tell us what you would like to see happen.  I have read on the discussion board the idea of a Kinderspielgruppe... Great idea!!!!  I posted a poll yesterday looking to see if we should get some kind of group German language class started?  Beginner...Intermediate...Conversation/Advanced... Let us know what you would like to see.

Finally, we have our first Herbst event on Thursday.  I hope to see you there, if not, we will have more events on a more frequent basis... Let's participate!
