I plan to visit Charleston this Spring and would love to get to know some of the locals. My husband, who is also vegan, will be with me and would also like to join in.
A little over 2 years ago, I read the book Veganist by Kathy Freston, which I highly recommend. By the end of the book, I decided to become a vegetarian and only prepare vegan foods at home. About a year later, I decided to eat completely plant-based. It wasn't until I became a vegetarian that I really learned how to cook, and now I absolutely love finding new plant-based cheeses at the store and dining out for plant-based foods.
My favorite place to dine out is Great Sage in Clarksville, MD. It's hard to choose a favorite item, but I really love their hearts of palm "crab cakes" and their sweet potato salad. It's about a 2 hour drive from Philadelphia, which is a very veg-friendly city and has a ton of my other favorite spots including Vedge, Blackbird Pizza, Blue Sage, HipCityVeg and Doc Bakers Farmulations.
I'm a vegan from the Philadelphia area. Would love to meet other folks interested in environmental and health topics.
