DIY Festival

The First Annual Charleston DIY Festival is designed to celebrate the “Do-It-Yourself” philosophy. The Charleston County Public Library is the perfect venue for this event, as one of its core values is to promote lifelong learning. This free festival will occur at the library’s Main Branch on Saturday, May 17, 2014, from 2pm until 5pm, and it will provide the opportunity for local artists, craftspeople, businesses, organizations, musicians, and technology advocates who support creativity and inventiveness to collaborate with the greater Charleston community.

The event will include:

Interactive Booths: Demonstrators will illustrate their activity, business, or craft and sell their goods at instructional tables in the library’s auditorium.

Live Music: Local musicians will play in the auditorium throughout the afternoon.

DIY 4 Youth: There will be DIY crafts for youth in the library’s Young Adult Department.

Lectures: Alongside the booths will be short classes in the library’s meeting rooms.

I just got here. I'm in a black jersey dress with a black and white purse. I'll wait at the info desk for a little bit before heading in.

Oh I misunderstood about the festival. I was hoping there would be some extra space. I didn't know that we had to sign up for table space.
Does anyone have a small space like 2x2 for me to set some jewelry down?
I'll be wearing stir copies shirt that says Pooka's Kreations.

Do we need to bring our own tables? Do tables/booths cost anything?

Melissa - you'd need to contact Megan Summers at CCPL to learn more. I suspect it's probably too late, but I know she and her team will be there from 10-12 setting up tables.

See y'all tomorrow! I'm speaking from 2:15-2:25, and SpaceCraft has a space in the auditorium with three button presses, our vintage Webster typewriter, envelope templates, and a whole mess of other stuff I threw in the boxes. See y'all there!

Hey all - this is tomorrow so please update your RSVP if you no longer can make it. I'm planning to be there from 2-3:30/4ish since I have company coming into town. I'll post tomorrow morning what I'm wearing so you all can easily find me. I'll also post on the meetup app where we'll be meeting once I get there. So you may want to download it if you don't already have it. Otherwise, feel free to text me if you can't find us: [masked]-0558. See everyone tomorrow!

I'll be returning from a "glamping" trip in wine country NC that particular weekend... Hate that I'll miss it.

I'll be there! I'm giving a lecture (schedule is TBA), and SpaceCraft will have three booths/stations. So stoked about this event to highlight DIY culture in Charleston. Happy to see this event posted here, and looking forward to seeing you all.

Why are the RSVPs closed? I would have loved to sign up.

They'll open on April 27th. Since it's over a month away I like to open up RSVPs closer to the event so people don't sign up and then forget about it.
