Trail Description: "The U.S. National Whitewater Center is home to some of Charlotte’s best trails. The USNWC offers over 20 miles of scenic woodland trails, river views, challenging climbs and exciting descents for riders of all ages and skill levels. The trail system is shared with hikers and runners and it’s difficulty is graded by color:

Green – beginner/easy, mostly flat trails
Blue – intermediate, slight elevation changes
Black – advanced, steep elevation changes

All riders are required to be equipped with a helmet and a mountain bike designed for steep single-track riding. If you have your own bike and helmet, you are welcome to enjoy the trails without purchasing an activity pass. If you need equipment (bike/helmet), simply purchase an AllSport, CoolSport, QuickSport or Sunset Pass. Trails may be inaccessible at times due to inclement weather, trail maintenance or scheduled events." -usnwwc.org

"The trail system has now been re-connected following construction of the USNWC. More miles to come, as a beginner level trail will be constructed over the winter of 2007/2008. Please check the web-site for upcoming trail days.

"Eighteen years ago the Tarheel Trailblazers began an effort to construct and maintain mountain biking trails at the current location of the US National Whitewater Center. In 2004 the USNWC organized and was granted a long term lease of the 307 acre property from MecklenburgCounty, ensuring the future security of the trail system. In 2006 the USNWC opened doors and began serving the mission to build stronger communities by promoting healthy, active outdoor lifestyles. The Trailblazers support the mission of the US National Whitewater Center. Not only is the Center a unique recreational resource available for our entire community, but the Center is committed to maintaining and improving the Whitewater trails and considers them one of the greatest assets of the Center. The Center's trail management efforts are supported by the continued volunteerism of the Tarheel Trailblazers, the Dirt Divas, REI, and others. Learn more about the USNWC at www.usnwc.org." -TarheelTrailblazers.com
