I've been looking for a Charlotte Mushroom Hunting Club for a couple years and have come up empty. There are clubs in Asheville and Durham but none that I can find around here. Mushroom season is approaching so it seemed like a good time start one. The trouble is that I'm not an experienced mushroom hunter. My hope in starting this group was to find people that know the subject well.

After just 3 weeks we connected with a group of people in the general area that are very experienced in all aspects of foraging for mushrooms. Experienced in things I hadn't even thought of such as obtaining permits to forage for mushrooms. Who knew you needed a permit? Not me. I never heard of such a thing, and they're not easy to get. Luckily that problem was discovered and solved in less than two days.

We're in the process now of planning a main foray per month, April through November. Those will be posted as soon as permits are worked out and the dates are definite.

There will also be forays that require less planning and will have less notice. I anticipate there will also be spur of the moment forays when the weekend weather looks good after several days of rain. There will not be much advance notice of those.

We may have other meetups where we get together at someone's house and bring our best mushroom recipes. Time will tell what the group evolves into.

So if you're interested in the outdoors, like walking around in the woods, and have a sweet tooth for gourmet mushrooms that can't be bought in stores (not around here anyway), join the group,  have some fun, and learn something new. If you've already joined, thanks for joining and I'm looking forward to meeting you.

"I can do computer work from my home if that will be useful. I will attend meetups that are not too far from Davie County, Lake Norman, Uwharrie, etc."

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
