Hi everyone -
I was wondering if any Charlotte artists would be interested in some sort of studio visit group. I'm not quite sure how it might work, but what I'm thinking is a some kind of loose network of of artists in/around Charlotte who might pool together and exchange studio visits every (month? two-weeks?) The idea being is that every few weeks, you'd have a one-on-one visit to the studio of another Charlotte artist, and then they'd visit your studio. Then, a few weeks later, you might swap studio visits with a different Charlotte artist. Again, I'm not entirely sure of how it might work, so I'm open to suggestions.

The reason I'm nudging this idea out there is that I get a sense there are some unique challenges that artists in Charlotte encounter. For me, one of the things I've run into is not having a lot of access to the kind of vital face-to-face interactions and exchange of ideas that artists in other cities might have. Sometimes it's really helpful to talk about what your working on right now with other artists, from other disciplines and backgrounds. I sort of miss having folks in the studio because it can give me a lot of fresh perspectives on what I'm up to. Even more, I find that seeing what other artists are doing in their studios can spark a lot of great ideas and conversations.
So, I'm just throwing the idea out there to see if anyone else might be interested. If so, just respond here and we can figure out the next step. I was going to try and talk about this at the upcoming Barcamp, but it turns out I'll be out of town that weekend confused...so I figured I'll just start here.

I'm really interested in seeing what other Charlotte artists are up to - thanks!

christian,
I'm not an artist, but a writer -- novels and short stories. But I've been studying art history for a long time. I think the idea is great. We all work in some kind of isolation, and talking with artist would make me feel some personal connection to the art world. I hope a writer (and a musician -- rock and jazz and some flaminco techniques) would be acceptable.
