2nd Tuesdays of the month

-Food Issues
-Government Policy
-Fracking & Water Safety
-Grassroots Activism
-Local Farm Support
& How to get involved!

BRING YOUR OWN DISH TO GIVE BACK TO THE GROUP! PLEASE & THANK YOU. We will be meeting in the community room.

It is not required to bring a dish, but it helps to develop the community aspect of this event. In the end, you won't regret taking time to create something! When it comes to dishes please be mindful of the dish that you prepare. Take this time to let it be an educational and tasty experience. I personally will make sure one of my dishes is vegan & gluten-free. Try to go the extra mile of creating a dish that is from a local market or farmers market. I would love it if you simply wrote down on a piece of paper what ingredients are used in your dish and where you sourced those ingredients from. If we are to ask for companies to be transparent, we ourselves need to be as well.

Guest speaker begins at 7pm - Food begins at 6:30!

Hello, Everyone. I must say that this meetup did not disappoint! Way to go, Janet. You are amazing, yet so young. I am honored to have met you and this fine group of individuals. I shared this event with some other ladies who, too, try to eat better and nurture Mother Earth. I shared the literature. But their main question was, but what can we do about it, since these issues are so ginormous.
I look forward to many more of these Tuesday Potlucks; cant wait. I left feeling empowered, yet hungry for more information on how I can change my household, then help others, the small things. I read the labels on 3 items in my fridge this morning: applesauce, bbq sauce, ketchup. Sooooo disappointed!! High fructose in all of them. Organic now a must for these items.
BTW, thanks for all those who took the extra time to prepare a dish for us. Once I get more confident in reading labels and u/standing GMOs or GMIs (shaking my head, Im a novice), I will then be happy to prepare a meal.

Elista, I would be more than happy to cook with you before the next pot luck. Once we get closer I could let you know when I plan to prepare my meal and maybe you could come over to do it with me. We could split the groceries 50/50 for our dual effort!

Thanks! I really like how it came out. Sadly I'm a bad chef, because I don't stick to the recipe very well!
I roasted red peppers, onions and garlic. Then I put the roasted veggies in a large cooking pot with butternut squash, sweet potato, carrot and veggie broth. Cooked until soft. Added seasonings (I can't remember them all, but definitely had salt, pepper, nutmeg, cayenne, ginger, curry and a couple others). Then I added a few cans of coconut milk. Married it all together, then blended the soup. I prepared my recipe on Sunday because I didn't have time Monday or Tuesday. So I just reheated it when I got to HHM to set up (I was a couple hours early, haha).

This was a really fun night - seeing old friends and making new. The food was yummy with lots of healthy GMO free choices. Great conversation and some really interesting ideas.
