Charlotte Grok is a quick afternoon event based around conversations and startups. Talk, listen and eat with some of the smartest people in Charlotte.


The Format

A Grok is all about the conversations. Anybody is open to lead a conversation. A conversation could be about things you've learning while building a startup, an interesting problem you've had, a way to practice your elevator pitch and gather feedback, or share an interesting thought, idea or technique.

To keep the conversations interesting you have either 10 minutes or 20 minutes. Your choice.

The Schedule

  • 1:00pm - 1:30pm We'll meet in the Garage at Packard Place
  • 1:30pm - 2:25pm Start the first round of conversationShort Break
  • 2:45pm - 4:15pm Continuing the conversation
  • 4:15pm Closing thoughts and mingling

 

Parking

There's a lot of free parking on Tryon on the weekend if that's your style. Of course, there are several lots available at a reduced rate on the weekend right around Packard Place, too. Whichever's your fancy.

We realize that a Grok may not be a meetup you’re accustomed to and the unknown can be scary. So, for the people unfamiliar with the Grok style and format, we wanted to provide a taste of what you can expect through previous examples:

Addy Kapur of Charlotte’s very own mailVU started a conversation on Fundraising 101 giving the rest of the group a vision of the effort it takes from the perspective of one who has been in the trenches. It served to enlighten the group not only on the overall experience but also on the meaning of often confused or misused terms like convertible note, seed round, pre/post money valuation. Where his topic and our follow up conversation eventually led was on the differences (be them stark or fine) between a good investor and a bad investor based on the terms of the deal. Where before participants might have thought fundraising is something you can do without a lot of thought put into it, Addy’s talk helped all understand how intricate of a process fundraising actually is.
