In recent meetings, we have thought more and more about the possible desirability of moving our group meetings to a public place, rather than having them in a private home, because we worry that some potential new members may decide not to come to meetings because of feeling uncomfortable going for a first time to someone's private home. In this past Sunday's meeting, a member said he thought that San Antonio's Mexican Restaurant at South Park might be good, because it has a big meeting room (which can be divided into three). It would be relatively quiet, so it would not be likely to cause our group to fragment because of not being able to hear each other. So I was to check it out.
I did indeed go there, after talking with the manager my phone. The problem is that they cannot set it aside for us unless we can guarantee 15 members actually showing. There would need to be some commitment to eating, also. They do not have any other place that could accommodate us that would not be just out in the noisy area, and the table arrangement would not accommodate a very large group without breaking down into subgroups. My verdict is that it would not be suitable.
On the other hand, Big Ben has a good situation outside. The problem there is what we could do if it rained. Inside is somewhat noisy. I don't know that we should rule it out, but I certainly have the impression that meeting at Cathey's is currently more acceptable for our discussions.
Bottom line is that we need ideas. For the time being I will assume we will continue to meet at Cathey's, but if anyone knows of something more public that would be satisfactory, please let us know.
