Purpose: To learn / experience the advantages (and disadvantages) of using a prime lens which will force you to move your body in order to change the perspective of your image.
We will shoot using only prime (fixed focal length, non-zoom) lenses. Any type are welcome but for this event, you will be more successful achieving your goal if you use a WIDE ANGLE lens (the wider, the better). Typically, a wide angle lens (in full frame format) in considered to be 35mm or less. Again, bring what you have, and we can show you additional ways to maximize your depth of field.
We will concentrate on keeping everything in your image in sharp focus, using the three main elements for controlling depth of field. 1) a wide angle perspective, 2) small aperture, and 3) the distance you are from your subject. There is a lot more to wide angle photography then just "getting it all in". We will also introduce you to near-far photography (please Google) which brings your main subject close (and in focus) while keeping the rest of image in sharp focus as well.
Bring your favorite SHORT Prime Lens(es), and if you don't HAVE a prime lens, feel free to join us anyway as I will have some gaffer tape that you can use to lock your zoom (temporarily) from moving.
When in the park, just follow the signs to Lake Pointe Hall. We'll meet behind Lake Pointe Hall facing the lake. There are tons of places to shoot here. Most of all, we'll have some fun at this event and if we are not careful, we may all learn something new!
Although this is a FREE event for all members, please RSVP, especially if your plans change and have to cancel. Members may bring a guest to use as a model or assistant.
Steve will be there to assist our members from 6:00-8:00pm. After the shoot, we will continue at Mario's Pizza to wind down, cool off and discuss the evening's event.
