Queen City Sundown

  • IMPORTANT UPDATE:

The unanticipated demand for the Queen City Sundown event has far exceeded expectation. The level of interest has raised some issues leading to the tough decision to cancel. As a fellow CPG member I wish to express to you the reasons for this decision.

    1) As a CPG member I value the photographic opportunities provided by the CPG organization. My intention was to provide an opportunity I have often personally enjoyed, but on a manageable scale. I should have placed a limit when creating the event.

    2) I cannot guarantee the safety and security for the high volume of fellow CPG members wishing to attend this single event. Nor am I qualified or ready to accept the responsibility burden in the unlikely event of an incident.

    3) I believe that the private concerns raised about safety, security, and the reputation of the Charlotte Photography Group are valid.

Please accept my sincere apology for canceling this event. As a regular CPG member I look forward to working on creating future events to meet this demand.

    Thanks,

    Ken Fager

    -----

Come capture the sky over Charlotte turning from mellow blue to sensual shades of red, orange, and yellow. Once the sun fades the glimmer of electric light illuminates the uptown architectural skyline.

This meetup will allow you to practice capturing that special moment. It will also give you an opportunity to compare your interpretation of the same scene to other photographers who shared the experience.

We will meet and set up at 6:30pm on the top level of the CPCC parking deck on E 7th Street. There is no fee for parking and you may drive your vehicle all the way up. There is also an elevator.

The “golden hour” beginning at 6:58pm is expected to last only 29 minutes. Arrive early to be prepared for that perfect moment!

    Recommended Equipment:

A tripod is highly recommended. A telephoto lens >50mm is recommended to zoom in on the Charlotte skyline.

This meetup is weather dependent. Inclement weather or heavy cloud cover will lead to a rescheduling. In the event of cancellation an announcement will be made day of by 5:30pm.

100 photographers or not I will be there. Need to get out to shoot a bit more, we just all need to make sure not to cause any issues that might turn this perfect skyline shot location into a prohibited spot...

I'll take a knee on this one to allow more room for those who have not been there yet. Maybe next time.

This location is a meditative photography practice for me as the sky changes each time.
